I feel like people are worrying way too much about this :laughga: Just because at one time popular music fit your taste, it doesn't mean it has to continue doing so. Just continue listening to whatever you like without worrying about what songs are popular right now. It always goes in cycles.

:applause::applause::applause:

OT: Trends and stuff in music just come and go. It's normal for music to evolve and change—now whether or not you agree/like that change is of course up to you, but there's no denying that music is changing.

I mean, do I personally like the music right now? No. It's not for me, but I feel like it's useless to complain about it because it's inevitable: music will always change. I mean, do you think that older people necessarily like Lady Gaga stuff? Sure, there may be some people now who like her, especially after C2C and stuff, but when she first came out, I'm sure people were like "What the f*ck is this? Who is she?"

Now we're becoming the "older generation" saying "Music today sucks. How about you listen to 'x,y,z,'".

well almost half the songs are the same, a cheap beat and a rapper that says stupid stuff that rhymes.

No she has always been a decay. She was just fresh and new back then.

Decay as in commercially. Pop girls like Katy are no longer at the top. It's like they have now been replaced by a confused mash of artists that people can claim may seem less commercialised, yet are basically even less visually and sonically appealing. It's like producers have found a way to sell music while managing to being even more bland and uninspired.

So your problem is who is on the top of the charts and not what they have to offer on the music scene. :awkney:

Haven't I been talking about the pop charts this whole time? :neyde: And yeah, I'm also talking about what the artists at the top of the charts are offering on the music scene...

^^^^This comment :golfclap:

While pop music isn't really my favorite right now, people seem to forget the amount of garbage music the early 2000s brought. Each cycle always has both great and terrible music.

It's sung be a white **** who doesn't have a lick of respect for the culture.

It set a bad precedent. It's just white people disrespecting cultures they don't understand, yet again.

You're talking about Humble, right? I agree with what you're saying, but its visibility is still a good thing (to me). Obviously I wish it wasn't white people trying to feel cool by rapping, but the exposure is still a good thing. I don't know if it's disrespecting the culture so much as not considering the song's cultural implications and just focusing on the braggart quality of the music (and funny enough, not the irony that Kendrick's dissing himself on that track so the white people are also dissing themselves lol). Still, I think the exposure is a good thing long-term. Kendrick speaks to a lot of problems in the black community and if one track going #1 gets people to give the rest of his deeper, more unabashedly political tracks a listen then that's jiggy with me. I mean, look at Gaga. She drops a track like Telephone or Perfect Illusion to get people to listen to the Joannes or Dopes or Americanos of her discography. It's not a 1:1 comparison, but do you get what I'm saying? I mean, if DNA or XXX was in Humble's spot then I think I'd have more to say because that song *is incredibly tied to struggles in Black America. I have a hunch Kendrick made Humble with the intention of broader appeal because it sounds pretty different from the rest of the album. Singles are meant to promote albums and get people to listen and I think that's what he did here. It's a mildly political song (by his standards) that's palatable for broader tastes while also not diluting his own quality too much and thus should get people to give his other stuff a listen and hopefully move some albums and minds. It's a great single as was its intention.

I mean, I agree with you... but with all the reasons you could give about how bad and annoying is despacito you chose to point out that it is a spanish song? That's not very americano.mp3 of you.

My point is that the pop music scene today seems really confused. Not since the Macarena has there been a non english song topping the US charts. Are we actually really regarding a song like Despacito to be as much of a historical iconic music moment as the Macarena? (not trying to put that novelty song on a pedestal...)

Pop = popular and the spanish sound is popular, soooo...it's mainstream and pop. It doesnt have to be iconic to be a pop song.
