RadioIsOurs 13,876
'Pop music' as in what's charting right now. I look at the Billboard Hot 100, and I just don't get it. I don't get any of what directions pop music are going for right now. Why the hell is a spanish song #1 all of a sudden? Why is the lack of female artists in the top 10 becoming a norm now? Perhaps many of the songs are actually good and they are just not my style (because I'm not into hip hop which there's an abundance of now). Or is it simply just that pop music has become utter trash? But why? How? Could it actually be worse than last year?
baptism 2,670
I have NO idea what's going on either but take comfort in the fact that pop girls are still putting out great music. Take a listen to Lorde's newest effort and have your faith restored! Just because the GP's taste truly is generic basic hetero-normative music made by almost exclusively men doesn't mean that there isn't great pop music out there. littlepotter 75,142
I feel like people are worrying way too much about this Just because at one time popular music fit your taste, it doesn't mean it has to continue doing so. Just continue listening to whatever you like without worrying about what songs are popular right now. It always goes in cycles. chaeri pls

Luxe Ford 3,481
I can't stand the majority of it because of autotune. I...just...don't...get...it! It was fun for a short while as a special effect, but on *every* xvftjdefffefhckrdfing song? In my opinion the most interesting pop happens out of the charts. What happens in Luxe Ford stays in Luxe Ford

DaftFameMonster 2,527
This is something I've pondered for a while... Perhaps it's just our changing tastes as we grow older, or our knowledge of music has opened us up to possibilities outside the top 40. You never know what gems lay hidden out there. While it does annoy me hearing the radio today, I try to keep positive knowing that music is changing and evolving in all areas, and that I always have my older music to go back to. <

bumblebee 2,528
Well this is probably how people with a preference for hip-hopish and urbanish genres felt when the charts were dominated by infectious glittery bops and candy-like songs by female singers. Now it's their time of reign, and I join everybody who believes it's a cycle that will eventually be replaced by something else. As for the Spanish songs at number one, well you have to keep in mind that hispanic population has been a key driver of the USA population growth since at least 2000 - the data from pew research center, if you want some receipts. So it was a matter of time before the young people with Latino descent reached the teen-age and started influencing the pop culture and got representation. The oldest members of hispanic community born in the new, post 2000 wave, are just 17, so most of them are teens, and we know that teens are one of the strongest communities to influence the charts and the so-called general public's taste.
