blackcoffee 1,264
That key change is just amazing! Gosh, PI is such an amazing song! Top 5 Gaga song for me. I LOVED it on first listen, but you need to listen to the instrumental to fully appreciate it. Once I heard the instrumental and those godly synths were brought more forward, I was even more in love with the song. I NEED Gaga to work with Kevin Parker more. I would SO be here for a full album of Gaga-Parker/Tame Impala-Ronson.
Allan 3,875
It's interesting to witness© the exteme opposites in this thread, I personally loved PI since the first listen and the key change is truly a highlight: I see Perfect Illusion as a really chaotic, dramatic and heavily emotive song (getting to the conclusion that all the good moments you've lived with someone you thought you loved or you thought that loved you were just illusions is something really tough to deal with), so the key change to me represents the moment when Gaga explodes and puts out all her anger/sadness/disappoinment like she's really in pain. And I think that's pretty much one of the possible explanations for the messy and seizure-inducing visuals of the video too.
River 116,268
She just didn't like the key during the song so she changed it, no need to make a big deal of it.. It's like you are eating a banana and suddenly you throw it because there is a juicy apple over there.. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

DAVID VOGUER 1,956
It's special because it's placed in the gold ratio of the whole song... http://www.classicfm.com/discover-music/music-theory/lady-gaga-perfect-illusion-key-change/ They can't scare me, if I scare them first. Even though I believe that the song would have sounded even more powerful with harder bass lines.

dit 46,445
The instrumentals and build up of this song is beyond amazing. wish Gaga's screechy shrill vocals were a little restrained but then again it gives it that angry vibe that the song needed but it does cover up the gorgeous instrumentals :'(
display name 4,360
I don't know if I'd say it's groundbreaking, but it's very nice. I'm more used to hearing key changes in rock songs myself. Bon Jovi's done it. So has Avenged Sevenfold. Within Tenptation. I mean, just the fact that Gaga went for it in "Perfect Illusion" is appealing to me. When it's done well, it really helps to elevate a song, and Gaga did it well in my opinion. It's like an extra burst of energy comes through in what's already an aggressive song. It's great. LordGa 257
Key changes are risky tho, like the key change in Green light. Both are groundbreaking, but chartwise messy
tomsches 17,392
I hate key changes in general. I think they just sound so cheesy and in PI it doesn't do anything to the song...
