ARTPOP was everything

ARTPOP—regardless of its subpar songs and poorly-executed visions—should be admired by others in all aspects. It basically deteriorated her career and became a laughing stock to the media yet stuck by the album even though her personal life affected her schedules severely. Although Gaga became a little pretentious in some interviews and seems as if she didn't know what she was talking about (she confused Botticelli's “The Birth of Venus" with Venus de Milo for example) she used the betrayal of the media as a performance art piece and anyone observing her every move can infer how much she wanted to impact our culture in a plethora of ways; such as when she announced that she was going to perform in space, Volantis, the Robert Wilson collaboration at the Lourve, her application, and several more depicts that. Regardless of its failures it was certainly an era that was enjoyable and interesting for the most part and I'm speaking for everyone when I say that we've all learned from her mistakes. Seeing how ambitious Gaga was at the time is so admirable even though it was critically and commercially panned. After all, all of these reoccurring incidents have worked in her favor after realizing who truly cared for her as a person instead of touting her and cemented Gaga as a vocal powerhouse and an unstoppable force with her spectacular performances and overall determination. Nobody had the audacity to question her immense talent ever again after ARTPOP.

I think we can all agree that ARTPOP (song) shined the most. That track was not treated bad at all (looking at you MJH) it gaves us Gaga listen to my cd, amazing live performances (the best from the era imo) the ARTPOP film and got featured in a music video.

I know it's tempting to look back and try to enjoy an era lots of people miss, but no it wasn't a good era and those who lived it know.

don't even try taking superiority because you've been on this mess of a site for a few years lol.

whether or not i was on this site in 2013 does not matter. i still saw and experienced the damn era.

:crossed: really, the fact that you feel attacked by what I said just tells me how upset you actually are about this "great" era you're calling ARTPOP.

Looking back, it might have been a good era. It always is. But if you lived that era, you should know it was not a great experience.

She talked a lot about ARTPOP's music before it was released. And it had nothing to do with the final result.

She promised an app, channels for fans, music videos, technology, new ideas. Absolutely none went through. She tried to save that by doing a mini-movie, directed by herself.

During the second single Venus/DWUW she kept saying she would deliver everything, even when controversy was already installed. And one day, and from then on, silence.

After the DWUW mess, she disappeared. When we say she has given up on Joanne, she doesn't promote it, we don't remember her attitude after DWUW, when it felt like the era was over. She did one single performance for Jimmy Fallon, and we all thought she was coming back to give the ARTPOP era the attention it deserved, but of course we were wrong.

ARTPOP had no concept at all. In fact, "ARTPOP could be anything", and that might sound very poetic but at the end of the day means almost nothing.

So yes, I repeat, it might be nice to look back and remember the era, but if you lived it you know it was not that great. You are watching an eight-minute video with everything that era has given us, it doesn't totally represent all those months we've been through.

In a few years we will look back and remember Joanne era and say how amazing it was. We will remember the Superbowl and such performances, and say it was one of the greatest eras for Gaga. And yet, we all complain nowadays about Gaga's lack of attachment to Joanne's album.

It was a very polarizing era, that's for sure- had some incredibly awful moment, but also some amazing moments.

The concept of the album itself was pretty ingenious, yet the execution drowned out its message and metaphors at face value. Her performances and musicianship was not bad at all (in fact, it was on par as BTW in some ways), but the media denigration unfortunately outweighed all of that.

And the worst part, which I honestly can't even blame her for, was her depression and mental illness taking a step forward, thus forcing her to step back (and necessarily so).

But, it truly had its moments.

The album itself is fun, quirky, and occasionally smart as much as it was (intentionally) vapid. After her Late Night performance of ARTPOP (which is amazing, btw, everybody should check it out), her old drive kind of kicked back in- SXSW, Roseland, and the artRave tour were all fun and amazing.

And best of all, by the end of it, leading up to Cheek to Cheek, I feel like she finally, truly flourished behind what she wanted to present with the album- even if it seemed the intent changed.

Also, small note on the video- the key for the VMA's performance is, like, lowkey pitched up and/or sped, so wow what a funky collage.

ARTPOP was...

Electronic, Rave, Fun, Confessional, Emotional, Introspective, Reflecting, Over The Top, Diverse, Intense, Some of the Best Vocals, Eclectic, Pretentious (it was :lolga:)...

But above all things it was so amazing, no matter what anyone said about it :music:

It was the first time her schedules and singles were very mismanaged, and the idea that Lady Gaga had her steps all planned out just crumbled.

BTW was the first era where things started getting messy though. Judas/TEOG was just like the DWUW/Venus thing.

I still love ARTPOP! It was obviously a very painful time for her but the music and visuals were great! Its such a shame things were crumbling so badly behind the scenes, but I'll always still love the era for what it was.

Indeed, Judas/Edge of Glory was a first taste, but it didn't show up as much. In the end, it was just a switch that made no difference for the regular follower and everything as delivered. With DWUW/Venus, not only the drama was clearer to all, at the end nothing came through. It was really sad, and to this day I resent Gaga for not releasing something, anything! You can't be an artist who claims to be everything good and faithful to your artistry and then release nothing. She wouldn't be the first to leak and release stuff against her label or whoever stopped her. ARTPOP really changed the way I perceive Gaga as an artist.
