There are many meat alternatives on the market, many ways to cook and flavour food to give you meaty textures or taste. Is your own cravings more important than suffering? Because at the end of the day, that's what it comes down to. eh, I guess you didn't understand my hints I have a specific medical condition that forcing me to eat meat, believe me I did my research, my doctors in Israel and in France said the same thing, it's forbidden for me to give up on meat. I talked iwth vegan gurus to find a way but actually nothing helped. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

You can't oppose one and support the other, it is hypocritical. This!!!! Some many ppl i know who eat meat, wear leather etc are so disgusted by dog meat!!! Like just because Western Culture gives dogs and cats pet status doesnt make them more valuable In India cows are highly valued. From there perspective, its sickening that the West drinks so much cow milk and eats beef 🤦♂️

Dogs are born to love humans - they naturally can read human body language and emotion. So I wouldn't call it hypocritical to value dogs over other animals, there's a reason why they have earned the title "Man's Best Friend". Many animals will show simmilar affection and loyalty if domesticated. Its just that most animals arent Cats in particular are not generally THAT bondable. They stick to themselves a lot and can be unpredictable. Dogs are a higher level of loyalty and emotional connection tho if i wasnt allergic id still prefer a cat as dogs are too needy and time consuming to take care of. My two dogs my parents bought drive me crazy. I didnt want them lol

Bette Davis 12,742
I think it's great for meat eaters to be against Yulin, and I don't think they should be shamed for having that special affection and concern for dogs. Dogs do have an extra special bond with humans after all. I believe everyone should sign the petitions against this barbaric practice, vegan or not. You don't have to respect every aspect of other cultures if a belief, practice or tradition is detrimental to other humans, living creatures or the earth. I think at the same time though, you should reevaluate why you don't extend that compassion to AT THE VERY LEAST animals like pigs, lambs and cows who are just as intelligent and affectionate. Go meet a baby cow and you will start to see veal in the grocery store as repulsive as you do the Yulin Dog festival. Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet. Celina 118
Well that's... upsetting, to say the least. So is the meat industry. Hence why I'm vegetarian. (I understand some people might need meat for medical reasons, and maybe even eating it on rare/special occasions, but other than that, it just seems frivolous to me, and there's no reason for those animals to be treated the way they are when they're alive). And it's absolutely hypocritical for meat-eaters to oppose only this, but I think it might boil down to people hurting creatures you see as family. IMO it should be hard to imagine people hurting creatures at all, and I have no doubt that some of the other animals people eat could just as easily make intelligent, loving companions. But I'm not surprised there's a double standard. Besides, it's probably better for people to speak up for at least one species than to remain totally silent because they feel like hypocrites

It is just as easy to teach a pig tricks as you would say, a Labrador. So I guess now it's not alright to eat bacon or enjoy a pulled pork sandwich? Fish and birds are also proven by science to be very sentient creatures. They may not express themselves conventionally like other domestic animals, but they certainly do have emotions and interact in socially complex ways. It's still hypocritical to try to ban a country from eating dog meat when they have been culturally accustomed to doing just like how we are accustomed to eating steak. Should we suddenly stop eating beef because Indians view cows to be sacred? Personally, I'd still be against this festival because of its inhumane treatment and kidnapping of dogs but we can't just tell another nation to quit eating dogs while we discriminate against other animals. angels forever, forever angels

Meat may come the hardest as you say, and I agree, so to them it'd be considered a luxury. Idk if a lot of you could ever see it outside the westernized/first world view, but research your arguments carefully. I think you are really confused... Are you saying starving people around the world aren't having trouble feeding themselves? That they do have access to 'vegetation' and its just my 'first world view' that is blinding me? I think you need to research, no offence but your comments are very strange. Many of our produce in the west comes from very poor countries, where the workers are nearly, and often times actually are, slaves. They make little to no money, and cannot afford food because they are busy farming food for the western world to feed to our animals, so we can then eat those animals. I can see outside my world view, I see that us Westerners are eating meat and dairy just for taste only, and draining incredible amounts of grain and water to feed these animals who provide meat and dairy just for the west. We could be helping starvation so easily and so cheaply with plants, but instead we are feeding the cows and pigs, just for cravings... This site gives information about how produce workers are treated in the STATES, the poverty they face, and the issues with the entire industry. Click on links to other foods, such as cocoa farming, and you will see the slave labour involved, and the little incomes these people make. You can't seriously believe people forced into work like this can afford to go out and buy a burger, its absurd.http://www.foodispower.org/produce-workers/ FATWIFE, First Lady Of GGD
