juju 18,907
K-Pop power quartet 2NE1 experienced a great deal of success before releasing their second (and final) studio album, CRUSH, on February 14th 2014. Featuring styles such as R&B, dance, hip hop, reggae and electronic pop, the album broke many barriers in the United States: charting on the Billboard 200 chart at #61, it became the highest charting K-Pop album in the charts history, as well as the Best-Selling K-Pop Album at the time (a record that would later be broken by boy-group EXO's Exodus album a year later). Featured on many Best-Of lists for the year 2014 (Rolling Stone named it the 6th best pop album of the year), the genre-defying album would go on to produce four hit singles, and a tour that would bring in 182,000 fans from all over South East Asia. Although the group officially disbanded in early 2017, their impact on the genre was a great one - not only were they able to meld killer hooks with infectious beats that would go on to appeal to a wider audience than their predecessors, the rebellious attitude and dynamic of the group were, and still are, unparalleled amongst their K-Pop contemporaries. Legends in their own right, 2NE1's short reign will forever be remembered as branching the genre far from its confines of its Southeast Asian origins, and introducing K-Pop to a worldwide audience. The electro-pop/dancehall banger was very on-scene for Korean pop at the time, featuring slick beats and bizarre costumes. Two versions of the video were made: a "Space" version, and a "Street" version. The video was so popular, it won "Best Video" at the 2009 Mnet Asian Music Awards. (5/11) I Don't Care (+ Reggae Remix) Spoiler On 5/11/2017 at 11:51 AM, juju said: To Anyone - I Don't Care The second single from the girls' eponymous debut EP, I Don't Care is a drastic change from the edgy visuals of their first single, Fire. The group's rapper CL stated that the song was "a warning message for the men and advice for the women". The song was a bonafide hit: by October 2012, the song had sold over 4.5 million digital copies, becoming one of the most successful singles of all-time in Korea. The group released a fantastic reggae remix of the song (which I happen to prefer). Check it out below (5/18) Try to Follow Me Spoiler On 5/18/2017 at 0:37 PM, juju said: To Anyone: Try to Follow Me This first video to really make me go These girls are special , Try to Follow Me was released in 2010 and shows off the personality of each of the members to a tee. The bop was later included on their debut album, To Anyone, and reached #1 on the Gaon charts in their native South Korea. (5/19) Clap Your Hands + Go Away + Can't Nobody Spoiler On 5/19/2017 at 8:07 PM, juju said: To Anyone: Clap Your Hands + Go Away + Can't Nobody 2NE1 surprised fans in the fall of 2010 by releasing three singles back-to-back-to-back: the urban-infused bop Clap Your Hands on September 8th, the power-pop/super ballad Go Away on September 9th, and electro-bop album highlight Can't Nobody on September 11th. The first of the three "title tracks" released the day before the group's debut album was unleashed upon the world, this 100% bop features a lot of dancing, unforgettable hooks, a rap middle-eight courtesy of CL and Minzy, and more than enough looks to keep the viewers entertained. The single went on to reach #3 on South Korea's Gaon chart, and #4 on Billboard's World Digital Songs chart. The second of the "title tracks" released was Go Away, which coincided with the group's debut's release on September 9th, 2010. The video features a bit of domestic violence and a lot of drama, and revealed another side to the girls. It paid off, with the video winning the "Favorite K-Pop Video Award" at the 2011 MYX Music Awards. The song itself did extremely well, becoming the group's second #1 single on the Gaon Charts, and also posting up at #6 on Billboard's World Digital Songs Chart. The group had absolutely out-done themselves with this video at the time of its release. Can't Nobody, by itself, is bombastic enough to get the party started. But the video? It catapulted the group into new territory, no longer newcomers in the game, but full-fledged heavy-weights - seriously, if you bypass the other two videos above, at least give this one a chance, for you won't be disappointed. The video won "Best Video" at the 2010 Mnet Asian Music Awards, an event that saw the group winning the most out of every nominated act that night, including the coveted awards for "Artist of the Year" and "Album of the Year". On the charts, the song peaked at #2 on the Gaon charts, and #2 on Billboard's World Digital Songs Chart - a new high for the group. (5/20) It Hurts (Slow) Spoiler On 5/20/2017 at 4:30 PM, juju said: To Anyone: It Hurts (Slow) The group's first big ballad moment, this song's video features some fresh fashion and centers on Dara and a long lost love. Released on Halloween night, it serves as the final single from the group's debut album. It reached #4 on the Gaon chart, making it the group's fifth consecutive Top 5 single on the chart. It also became the group's fourth Top 10 single on the Billboard World Digital Songs chart, reaching #7. (5/21) Lonely Spoiler On 5/21/2017 at 4:17 PM, juju said: To Anyone: Lonely Their third #1 on the Gaon Charts, Lonely is lifted from the group's second extended play, also titled 2NE1 (much like their first EP as well). With a power-pop chorus and some of the group's more mature sentiments, the song has sold nearly 3 million copies in South Korea alone and has become a staple in 2NE1's diverse catalog. (5/22) I Am The Best Spoiler On 5/22/2017 at 6:23 PM, juju said: To Anyone: I Am The Best In the middle of 2011, 2NE1 dropped the video for the biggest hit of their career - I Am The Best. Having amassed nearly 180 million views on YouTube, the electro-house hip hop banger encompasses many of the group's signatures - most of all, a bombastic chorus and their ever-evolving styles. Their first song to hit #1 on Billboard's World Digital Songs chart and their fourth to top the Gaon chart, the song also charted in countries such as Japan and France. It was I Am The Best that made the group known internationally, bringing in droves of fans from the West with it's sickening beats and insanely eye-popping visuals. Among its many accolades, I Am The Best won "Song of the Year" at the 13th Mnet Asian Music Awards, and was the eighth K-Pop video to cross the 100 million mark on YouTube in October of 2014. (5/23) Hate You Spoiler On 5/23/2017 at 10:18 AM, juju said: To Anyone: Hate You A song that was supposedly cut from their debut album, Hate You is an electronic pop song that was released in July of 2011 from their second EP. Originally titled "Fuck You", the song's video features animated members of the group as they battle a red-headed male who transforms into a monster. The song itself peaked at #3 on the Gaon Charts, and #2 on the Billboard World Digital Songs Chart. (5/24) Ugly Spoiler On 5/24/2017 at 6:12 PM, juju said: To Anyone: Ugly One of the group's most relatable songs, Ugly was 2NE1's fifth #1 on the Gaon Charts. The video features the girls in punk street-wear, rioting on a closed set full with pyrotechnics and spray paint. Combining their knack for killer choruses and vulnerable lyrics, the chorus hits like a sledgehammer: "I think I'm ugly and nobody wants to love me." (5/25) I Love You Spoiler On 5/25/2017 at 11:04 PM, juju said: To Anyone: I Love You A stand-alone single released in mid-2012, YG Entertainment released the following statement about this particular song and 2NE1's sound as a whole: "Since their debut, they have always done hip-hop, electronic, reggae and R&B. It was time for them to challenge themselves and try something new." Their sixth #1 on Gaon Charts, and their first #1 on Billboard's newly-inducted (and ultimately short-lived) Korea K-Pop Hot 100 chart, the song explores new terrain for the girl group and offers a more unique dance-pop sound unlike the group's previous releases. The song itself created a new milestone for both 2NE1 and their genre as a whole: it became the very first K-Pop song ever to be played on the UK's BBC Radio 1. (5/26) Falling In Love Spoiler On 5/26/2017 at 0:14 PM, juju said: To Anyone: Falling In Love Their seventh Gaon #1 and the group's most summery song yet, Falling In Love appeared online in the middle of 2013 between the group's album cycles as a standalone single. Yet another collaboration with Teddy Park, the video for the reggae/hip hop hybrid reached over a million views in the first 24 hours. It also became the group's second Top 5 single on Korea's Billboard chart. (5/30) Do You Love Me Spoiler On 5/30/2017 at 6:41 PM, juju said: To Anyone: Do You Love Me Released in August of 2013, the late summer banger electro-house Do You Love Me became the group's twelfth consecutive Top 5 hit on the Gaon charts, peaking at #3. The video shows the girls enjoying a house party and gives off a rather candid aesthetic, a far cry from the high-gloss of their other videos. (6/5) Missing You Spoiler On 6/5/2017 at 9:54 PM, juju said: To Anyone: Missing You Serving art and fashion in this stand-alone single, 2NE1 bring their ballad brilliance to yet another standalone single. It reached #1 on the Gaon Charts, making it the group's eighth single to top the charts (and tenth #1 overall). It was the final in a string of standalones the proceeded the release of the group's second full-length album. (6/6) Come Back Home Spoiler On 6/6/2017 at 0:50 PM, juju said: To Anyone: Come Back Home The queens of genre-hopping, 2NE1 melded their many strengths on this single, that dropped in March of 2014. With four years separating their full-length LPs, the girls came swinging with a futuristic video full of metaphors that weave their way through a tragic love story. The song was a huge hit, as to be expected, topping the Gaon Charts and becoming one of the best-selling K-Pop songs of 2014 - despite promotion being halted due to the Sewol tragedy. The group blessed fans with two versions: the album mix, and an acoustic version, and officially launched their new album campaign by performing both on various programs. (6/9) Crush (Japanese Vers.) Spoiler On 6/9/2017 at 3:16 PM, juju said: To Anyone: Crush For the Japanese edition of their second LP, 2NE1 released a very fashionable video for promotional single and title track Crush. Despite not being released as a single in their home country of South Korea, the single shot to the top twenty of Japan's Hot 100 and the US's Billboard World Digital charts, solidifying the girls as an international force to be reckoned with. (6/9) Happy Spoiler On 6/9/2017 at 7:53 PM, juju said: To Anyone: Happy Serving major looks and taking to the streets, we have our girls out and about looking mad cute as they deliver this striking visual for album track Happy. Filmed in Los Angeles, 2NE1 are accompanied by bright animations and bursting colors on this album-only track. It's a stark contrast to the Come Back Home video, which features a desolate dystopian future, although both play with fantasy themes infiltrating into reality. (6/14) Gotta Be You Spoiler 16 hours ago, juju said: To Anyone: Gotta Be You Surefire fan-favorite among Blackjacks, Gotta Be You was released as the third and final single from CRUSH, and the final single from all four of the original members prior to their disbandment in late 2016. Teaming up with designer Jeremy Scott on the colorful extravaganza, the girls celebrated their fifth anniversary since their debut with the video's release. The single also proved massively successful, going on to peak at #3 on Gaon, making it their fifteenth consecutive Top 5 song on the chart. (6/15) Goodbye Spoiler Just now, juju said: To Anyone: Goodbye Released in early 2017 as a farewell to their fans, the remaining three members of 2NE1 - CL, Bom, and Dara - sing this emotive track alongside a montage of some of the group's more bubbly moments. Between contract renewals and mismanagement, K-Pop lost one of their premiere groups, one that redefined the girl group in Asia, and that injected their unique and distinctive personalities in the genre for what will undoubtedly be years to come. ❤ x ❤

They were my everything, and CRUSH is such a solid album. At only 9 songs (plus the unplugged song) it's an easy listen. It may take a couple of listens, but you will bop for sure sis ❤ x ❤
