I was just genuinely asking. I grew up in a Muslim family and I just find it ridiculous how muslims like to say all the other books have been rewritten but not the Coran because first of all that doesn't make any sense and secondly promoting your religion as the only truth makes more harm than good. Just let people believe in what they want.

Tell me something im legit curious. My moms best friend is Muslim (actually she was now shes a Jehovas Witness)...

She had a crazy life actually. They tried to kill her in Israel (honor killing) because she married a non-muslim and bombed her car and thats when she ran away to Canada

Anyway she said the Coran is actually the writtings of an elder or his teachings based on what he read from the bible???

I didnt understand fully what she said actually cuz i only joined the conversation half way. Could u clarify?

  Reveal hidden contents

Jk I know where ur coming from and its not right to discriminate ppl inj any way :poot:

  Reveal hidden contents

But religion is still total bs and only makes things worse :madge:

Even if ur right about that (i personaly believe in a God) but lets for the sake of the argument say ur absolutely right...

So what? Cant parents be full of BS in so many other things besides religion?

If parents are gonna get screened for religion BS how about other BS?

Fact is, going by whether they are religious alone will never tell u if they will be good parents or not. Also because not all religious people are fanatic about it

I highly doubt it'd stand for long if it even passes in the first place. It's totally unconstitutional and may fly in Trump's America but as soon as that fool and his band of lackeys is gone (hopefully sooner rather than later), we'll have common sense somewhat come back into play.

No need to freak out. Texas is famous for being a backwards ass state but the blue/left presence there is rising. That's probably why the far right hate mongers are pushing back as hard as they can and pulling stupid stunts like this :laughga:

Spoiler

Btw, "no need to freak out" doesn't mean don't be mad. This is outrageous and we should make our voices heard, I'm just saying it's not worth loosing any sleep over something that definitely won't be around for long :nails:

And as far as the argument of religion and how it plays into this, I don't really think we can blame religion or the religious. Of course, imho, we don't need these stories and myths to live our lives by in the 21st century. We don't need gods or angels, a promise of an afterlife, or any of that. If I could wave a magic wand and have religion disappear and be replaced by a global realistic perception of the universe, I would :rip: But these people aren't getting their hateful views from religion. They hold their bigoted ways close and use religion as an excuse to be the way they are.

ISIS uses Islam as an excuse to murder and vie for money and power, these people use Christianity to take the rights away from Jews, Muslims, and LGBT+ people. Even if those religions were gone, they'd still act that way, they'd just have to find something else to "justify" their ridiculous ways.

Radical ideas and bigotry are dangerous.

I was raised Christian and taught to be homophobic. My dad used Leviticus and the story of Sodom and Gomorrah to teach me that gays deserved nothing less than eternal damnation. Then come middle school, I found out that I like dudes :rip: After being messed up for a while, I fell in love with science and eventually read the Bible for myself. What I realized is that you'd have to be bonkers to believe anything in that book actually happened  (sorry if that offends anyone ). Now a days, I view believing in God to be on the same level as believing in...like...Santa Claus or the Toothfairy :rip: I freed myself from the shackles that religion put on me.

Not everyone is that lucky though and tbh, not everyone needs to be. There are people who can hold strong religious values and still be amazing people who use their faith to help others and give back to the world. There's people who believe in a god that manage to not be spiteful, hateful pricks like these Texas legislators. That's why I don't think it's fair to blame religion or the religious for injustices like this :hmm:

This is a case of bad people doing something bad and using a tool (religion) to "justify" their bad deeds. Nothing more, nothing less.

I dont think its on the same level. Many ppl believe in a God even if they dont automatically take in everything religious leaders tell them

heck some ppl arent even religious but believe in a God (they are called agnostic)

I believe in God for many reasons. I find the remark that its on the same level as believing in Santa Claus or the tooth fairy to be rather offensive

Im not trying to sound cocky here, but I have a very High IQ, CAT Test Scores, won every mock debate im school, and Im the one at work everyone runs to when the math is too complicated. I also grow my investments faster than the funds the bank recomends that are run by "proffessionals"

Dont misunderstand me. Theres different types of intelligences and Im not trying to say Im smarter than other people here...

Im just saying I never considered myself dumb and I look at the Universe with all kinds of theories in my head and from different angles, and I believe in a God

Ppl dont have to be idiots who believe in the toothfairy to believe in God!!!

I'm really not your guy here, my dad wasn't really practicing Islam and my mom was but she never teached me bad things but my sister has recently started to get more & more into Islam and I'm sorry but when I sometimes ask for an explanation for something I just contain myself from laughing at her face cause some answers don't make sense at all.

Anyways, to answer to your question all I know is that the Coran wasn't written by the Prophet himself and then his teachings got spread orally.

I'm sorry if I can't totally answer your question.

Reads an amazingly bigoted law about discriminating minority religions. Then sees the most liked comment in this thread, discriminating against religion :madge:

It's not like I'm in the mood to adopt anyone in the first place, but since I check 2/3 (gay and Muslim) of the criterion for this form of discrimination, I'll definitely keep that in mind. Not that I want to stay in Texas anyways, but oh well.

Omg I'm so glad my family isn't like this. If you want I can ask my sister about who wrote the Coran.

U dont have to it was just curiosity

cuz from what i understood, she said the coran was written as an interpretation of the bible from someone or group of people that were highly respected and then the coran became seen as like the holy thing

But again, i showed up halfway thru the convo and missed a lot, i could have misunderstood what she said

REALITY
14 hours ago, River said:

Time to ban religion, it's really going out of control, everywhere in the world.

I wouldn't let a Christian, Jew or Muslim to adopt or naturally have a child so they can brainwash the little soul to believe in total bullshit.

How many people needs to be hurt in the name of ancient book character that never existed and will never be?

How much money are we going to waste on something that has no meaning, that doing nothing helpful? all the money that we are burning for religion we could spend it on education, science, the poor..

When people will realize it?

It's devastating and this is a fight of a few, because so many people are protecting religion and religious people so badly that people like me are "the bad ones".. meh.. the world is so cruel..

I wouldn't generalize it. It's not the religions themselves, it's the people that are taking things too far that are the problem. I'm Roman Catholic—albeit, not a super religious one, but nevertheless, I still identify with that religion—but I certainly don't discriminate and judge other people for what they believe in or don't believe in.

I mean, I'm gay and Christian: literally polar opposites. I can't speak to people of other religions because I'm not educated in them, but I can tell you that Christianity teaches love, peace, and unity. Of course, there are crazy people out there that take things way too far and try to force their religions down other people's throats, which is totally uncalled for and unnecessary, but religion is not suppose to be like.

It's not the religion, it's the people. By you saying "I'm not going to let them adopt or naturally have children so that they can brainwash them" is just as bad as saying "I don't want to have a gay child because they're sinful and immoral and disgusting". You are tarnishing a group of people, and no, I'm not saying this because I'm Christian, or to defend ignorant people. I'm saying this because you are generalizing a population and that in it of itself is not right.

Also, those who are single and interfaith couples. In other words, the only "acceptable" parents are straight, Christian married couples. :smh:
