I was just genuinely asking. I grew up in a Muslim family and I just find it ridiculous how muslims like to say all the other books have been rewritten but not the Coran because first of all that doesn't make any sense and secondly promoting your religion as the only truth makes more harm than good. Just let people believe in what they want.

I only have a limited knowledge of this, but I learned about some interesting effects of the ratio of young vs old in each generation that influences the political view in an interesting course called sociology of youth. My professor showed us how because the generation of the baby boomers and even a few years of the later generation has such a large proportion of youth born, and create a larger youth-to-adult ratio, there is a more liberal trend and ability to foster social changes in their generation. This is largely why the counterculture of the 60s was so successful. However, with the current generation of kids, and especially with the disillusionment brought about by the stock market crash in '08, the sociological factors of today simply cannot foster a more liberal (accepting of differences among other things) society. This is just my two cents, and I may be totally off, but I thought it's interesting to share 

Also I feel like the whole Syrian crisis has really scared the western world into becoming more conservative, nationalistic and populist; I think it's quite unfortunate but

 

Edit: this is ofc not to say that every older people are conservative, just that the general demographic leans conservative
