Different shades of seduction, lust, thirst, mystery, etc. And I have to disagree, it was a perfect character for her to cut her teeth on. Allowed her to focus on physicality and facial expressions first before diving into more extended dialogue scenes. I'd disagree - facially she seemed pretty stiff to me from scene to scene. Especially early on. I still think that character wise, especially early on - it was hard to separate 'Gaga' from 'The Countess' due to their similar fashion sense. Their similar appearance, which isn't very common I might add, didn't do her any favours. Gaga has an entire public persona based on her fashion, she is also extremely famous and her fashion is highly recognisable and strongly associated with her brand. Her playing a character with similar taste in fashion immediately provided a barrier for the audience to immerse themselves in the story. Rather than seeing a unique character, as soon as The Countess appeared on the screen they saw Gaga. I also don't think she was really able to show the physicality and facial expressions that you noticed tbh, not early on at least. Like I said, I don't think she did a bad job. Later on she was able to capture a lot more, especially with her facial expressions and physicality. As the season went on she clearly became more comfortable and the writing allowed her more freedom. Early on she was pretty wooden - but I'd say a significant amount of that is due to the writing. It was a role in a film that ended up winning two Oscars and getting a Best Picture nomination. I would've loved it.

Then you see the story progress and learn more about her and you understand her character more. I loved the 90s and 70s feel of the whole season too. This. I think Gaga was just very much in character but they hadn't shown us what made the character that way yet in the first episodes of hotel. I thought she was great the whole season
