Man, if she changed her name every time she switches music styles and looks...

not at all, "Lady Gaga" also stands for activism, gay rights, artistic achievement..... dropping the name would imply that all of that was an act of a stage persona

Ok I get your point, but I still think Gaga needs to restore her brand. Cultural capital is so important to be succesful.

Meh.  Cher went by one name and won an Oscar and received critical praise for quite a few movies.  She didn't ask for her full name to be put on the rolling credits or use her full name in announcing Oscar nominees on stage so she would have acting cred amongst a roomful of trained actors and actresses with formal names.  She didn't wear a tasteful Oscar gown.  She wore a see-thru gown.

Her talent spoke, not all of a sudden calling herself Cherilyn Sarkisian for acting gigs.  That would have felt disingenuous, to tell you the truth, because it's so not Cher to do that.

Announcing the nominees starts at 45 seconds.  She was pitted against hugely talented actresses like Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, etc.  But one-name Cher won.

It's not that Lady Gaga can't go by her name at times, but to lose that name Lady Gaga as her main name won't help her career and restore her brand. It would probably hurt her career.

But she'd be the exact same person. You would really stop following an artist over something as simple as a stage name?

STOP, just stop.

I understand the thoughts on this idea, but I think that it is still best that she stays with Lady Gaga and just navigates her career as she chooses under that name and just let the audience follow her trail and make light of it as they shall. Lady Gaga is sealed and permanent under her entertainment personality already and she can smooth the edges as she ages and become a respectable entertainer. She has already taken small steps in this direction and it will be even easier for her as she ages and keeps taking generous jobs outside of what is young and trendy. Even most stars from the golden age used a stage name and found respect and longevity while still under their stage name and are more easily known by it than from their birth names.

I guess Gaga could decide to do this and feel that it's the direction that she should take, since she will be billed as her birth name in A Star Is Born, but I feel like she is safe either way and I feel personally, that she should do everything under Lady Gaga. That is just how I would do it, just saying.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

Few problems.

"People want ___" "people don't want ___"

Who the hell is "people" and how come you're all-knowing suddenly? Get a job in PR you'll make money.

"This is why nobody is brand loyal" WHO?! Who on earth isn't brand loyal? Gaga has been noted as a leader in creating a brand loyal customer base by countless professionals.

"Lady Gaga" is a stage name, yes, because she plays a character on stage. Is Nicki Minaj dropping her name? Katy Perry? Foxes? Who next?

I do hope that Gaga's career will most closely resemble Cher's, that would be the best model for Gaga and all of her talents pulled together into one, Legend.

Lorde?  LOL  She can go back to her real name.  Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor,
