I think it is the "a RedOne" part at the beginning, if not, I have the wrong idea of what a hook is On second thought it's probably the chorus and hook are the same thing in this song. chiuga 1,970
2 entries (and not even top 10) only for the best pop hook writer of the 21st century? this list is a failure. I don't find myself humming to any of the songs in the top 10 tbh. even nicki's pop songs have much better hookers than the top 10 lmao

You could say "Just j-j-just dance" is the hook but yeah the chorus itself is the catchiest part.

ode 1,530
thoughts: a. As far as Gaga's places in this list go, I think @Creativek and @anomdepllume make good points about who makes these lists and how... but, even if we are reminded that this is a handful of writers with a list hugely influenced by the current moment's perceived taste/whims, I am still shocked by Gaga's places here. I can't believe that music writers/critics at Billboard don't understand how Gaga's early success paved the way for a Dance/EDM takeover of Pop Music/Pop Radio; whatever their opinion as listeners, these writers surely appreciate that Gaga will go down as the history books' posterchild for pop's shift from hiphop to dance. Right? Yes, "Just Dance" should be included for that reason, but "Bad Romance" might have served the same purpose--if it was placed higher. As is, this list is a mess because it slights the "gateway artist" connecting the first decade of this century with the second. b. I think "B.R." and "BTW" are smart choices. "Bad Romance" is the anthem of po-mo pop. "Born This Way" is obviously historic, and it will probably be Gaga's most iconic song IMO. It will be to Gaga as "Vogue" now is for Madonna.c. Is anyone else super surprised and super happy that LeAnn Rimes' "Can't Fight The Moonlight" was included? I heard this the other day as I entered some hip clothing store, and I was like "WOAH, IS COYOTE UGLY SOUNDTRACK FINALLY COMING BACK INTO OUR COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS?" All Rimes' songs from that movie were/are sooo memorable and important for me!
ode 1,530
7 hours ago, Lemonade said: I could've sworn a chorus and a hook were the same thing educate me fats The hook is usually part of the overall chorus; the hook is just the most memorable part of the chorus (or the most memorable phrase that is otherwise repeated). I think about hooks by imagining what piece of a song would RuPaul's pun-crazy mind take as a catchphrase or reference, if Ru had to use something from the chorus? lol "Don't be a drag just be a queen" "Ra-rah, ah ah ah/ Roma, Ro-mama" Usually hooks are immediately noticeable because they're musically different in a big way--as in these Gaga examples... but other times, the hook isn't made to sound that different than the chorus as a whole ("Call Me Maybe"), and sometimes the hook even plays over the chorus ("Be My Baby")!
