If it was about European coutries, I would say that (most) illegal immigrants should not be allowed to stay, but here that is kind of an obvious opinion most people have. Other complicating factors are that immigrants here may be the breadwinners for large families in dire straits elsewhere, or they may have children that were born in the USA, and because of jus soli, those children are automatically citizens while their parents, if illegal, are not.
