Gaga and this "tropical" sound

Slow down. I wouldn't say it's better than what Sia or Ariana has been putting out lately. The song literally sounds like Ariana song during the verses, The Greatest Thing during the chorus with a Justin Bieber type instrumental

Are you all blind? Do you know what quotation marks are?

I said "Tropical" because it's what many seem to recognize it as, regardless of the genre it sounds like what is trendy now.

All of you music professors have failed to post what genre it actually is. Everyone is saying something different.

I was waiting for DIC to be released so I could share it with my str8 friends, but TC is a PERFECT/PROBABLY EVEN BETTER substitute :trollga:

DIC has other influences in it, but TC is straight up 2016/17 pop music :trollga:

Coming from a person with a BS in Music, this is not "tropical" I don't even know what that means tbh. Do you mean Reggaeton? Calypso? Mambo? What are you talking about?

While I haven't heard the Cure, many songs which are called tropical have something common to me:

1. They sound like they're from the beach stage of a sonic videogame 9or other videogames, but I'm thoroughly reminded of the Beach stages from Sonic Adventure DX)

OR

2. they sound like a tropical forest stage in a videogame. Any of them, honestly.

The thing is that everyone who is against this sound also assumed that Gaga was against it, when she never even inferred such a thing. For all we know, she listens to "Closer" every night before she goes to bed. And yes, it's very 2017 sounding, but it has the classic Gaga chorus.

lmaooo I hope she does, just to make everyone here seethe :lolga:

Well you asked, and I gave an answer. However my version of "tropical music" is from what I hear in videogames. However, it's rather similar, in all honesty. Especially if a games soundtrack is generic or not given that much thought.

It's not because of a genre. honestly. two entirely different genres can give off a same feel.

To me, Come to Mama by Gaga and I'm not Calling Your a Liar by Florence and the machine give off a christmassy feel. However, neither of them are about Christmas.

It's kind of like that, I think.

your education probably makes you think too deep on this stuff. I don't really know much about music, genres to me and I assume most people are just about sounds. The high pitched sounds and melody at the beginning, those synths are on trend. They just have a beachy tropical vibe. That's all it is. the verses way more than the chorus. The chorus is almost throwback.

Come To Mama is Bowie/Springsteen circa 1983. What are you talking about??

Yeah like... your music major isn't letting you think in simpler terms I think.

Come to Mama has a beat or a melody that is similar to Christmas music, and then it uses a tambourine/jingly sound that is very common in Christmas songs.

I'm Not Calling You a Liar also has the jingly bells, and once again has a melody that reminds me of Christmas, up to a point.

Bonus Christmas music that isn't Christmas music but is also from a videogame soundtrack: Hopeless desire from the FFX soundtrack also sounds Christmassy, with more bells. Though it's really sad Christmas.

Are you even listening to music examples I'm listing or...

I said they're Christmassy, as in "giving off a Christmas feel". I also said CtM and INCYAL also had similar melodies to Christmas songs.

A person who is not in the Christmas spirit could say they associate it with winter or snow falling.

Also not tambourine. Bells or  tambourine that gives of that same jingly sound. I'm sorry if I don't know the correct jargon for it, but I know what I'm talking about.

Ans here are the other two songs I'm talking about since I having a feeling you don't know what I'm talking about because you won't make the effort to search yourself.

Spoiler

Like I said. Just because they're not about Christmas, they can still exude a holiday feel.

Many people in this forum noticed a very Christmassy tune in Come to Mama when it was released. You can go search for yourself.

Come to Mama uses a lot of 60s doo-wop tropes. It sounds similar to this classic Christmas tune:

The swing/triplet feeling, as well as the percussion and harmonies, are very reminiscent of this song.

Been a long time but I'm back in town, and this time I'm not leaving without you
