Well considering beligium doesn't have many laws governing the treatment of animals, it makes sense that that the mistreatment of these pigs isn't taken into consideration. **** this factory and whomever is allowing that mistreatment to continue. Especially the man kicking and antagonizing that pig.

However, the slitting of their throats (while gruesome) is not mistreatment. They can't guarantee that every pig is going to get the perfect slice and lose blood quick enough to not suffer at all. It'd be great if every animal could die peacefully in their sleep, but introducing chemicals to the meat is dangerous from a food saftey point of view.

Videos like this are spliced together to make incidents from days, maybe even weeks of footage, seem like it's one after another, when it's most likely not super common world wide or maybe in this very own factory. (In this line of work, you can come across bad apples with workers).

EU requires animals to be shocked so that they pass out, and while they're unconscious their throats are slit so they bleed to death. Painless and easy, except that the animals rarely pass out from the shock, so instead they feel the pain and get shocked again and again until they pass out.

 

Plus many workers at these farms are insane and treat the animals like **** (I've seen too many videos and documentaries like this )

Obviously that's how a slaughterhouse works and i dont think anybody argues with that.

I do know where you're coming from but that still does not justify it or make it less bad. Rules should be more strict that this couldn't ever happen, even though they are "just" animals

Exactly.

Yes, this is incredibly cruel, but editing probably a weeks worth of footage into a 5 minute video, and containing as much violence as possible, uuuhh, I don't really think that's the best way to tell everyone about what's happening there.

I get their point as well, to show probably the worst of all cases, but man, I think they really went for that shock factor.

They're trying to push an agenda, and the best way to do that is to scar people with tragic footage. They're trying to pull at the heartstrings because emotion loosens your ability to look at things logically, or at least your perception of logic. Specifically, /r/Vegan, the reddit subreddit that this video was posted to, loves screaming about Cognitive Dissonance, but it's mostly because they need to have their B12 shots updated. I agree, stuff like this should be seen, but unedited and in complete raw format.

Because it's not the solution to quit meat entirely, if everyone would go vegetarian/vegan, they would start making those products as cheap and as fast as they do meat right now, because the market demands it.

I think a better solution is to buy it from your local butcher and to buy  less heavily industrialized products.

You might pay a bit more but you help sustain a healthy market.

And you might end up buying less meat overall.

This happens all over the world, and heavily in America as well. I have other videos of it, but you refused to watch them before .

Pigs have the mental capabilities of a dog, or a human toddler. If it is not 'mistreatment' to slit a pigs throat but it would be for a dog or child, who would feel the same kind of pain while dying, then you're going to have to explain to me why pigs are somehow less important, especially when it is beyond easy to live without consuming their meat. This argument always comes up when people say they are for "humane slaughter", its an oxymoron and ridiculous. How can you humanely or peacefully kill another being that doesn't want to be killed, and the reason you are doing so is only for pleasure (eating for taste and not survival).

Videos like this are spliced together because of ag-gag laws. It is illegal to film inside of factory farms in the states, if they aren't doing anything shady, then why make such extreme laws that could put someone in prison for 15 years just for filming? There are rapists who do much less time. Animal activists have to go undercover to film, and are putting themselves at risk to prove this, it is not propaganda and it isn't selective footage. 
 

This is Earthlings, I hope you would at least TRY and watch it before you make a judgement on what it is.

Factory farming produces 99% of the meat to people, there is no way everyone can just switch to local meat sources. There isn't enough LAND to have free roam farms, the kind that people imagine is used for these animals to have happy lives. Not to mention in order to feed the demand the animals have to be repeatedly shot up with hormones and repeatedly impregnated to keep the meat coming. There is no way to humanely feed the world its meat at the demand it wants unless lab meat finally becomes affordable. The best thing you could do at the moment to reduce suffering is go vegan, and influence others to follow you.

This is beyond trolling. B12 shots updated? 40% of the population is B12 deficient, and only 1% is vegan, do the math. They aren't trying to 'scar' people, its about getting the truth out. So many people really believe these animals are living fine lives and die instantly and painlessly, obviously that's far from the truth and impossible even with the demand for meat and dairy products. As long as lab made meat is too expensive to be sold to the masses, there is no way to avoid animal abuse when you are buying an animal product.
