As U.S. politicians on both sides of the aisle have taken aim at the growing cost and complexity for Americans to watch their favorite sports teams on streaming services, three of the industry’s biggest streamers — Netflix, Amazon and YouTube — have formed a new Washington, D.C.-based lobbying group to push back.

The Streaming Access and Choice Alliance(SACA), which was announced Monday, will “promote high-quality and high-value entertainment experiences for consumers.” The group was founded by Amazon, Netflix and YouTube and is led by TechNet, a tech-industry trade group that has 106 member companies.

The formation of the Streaming Access and Choice Alliance by Netflix, Amazon and YouTube comes as the migration of sports from broadcast TV to streaming platforms has become a hot-button political issue.

Earlier this year, U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.) introduced a new bill designed to “to stop professional sports leagues from blacking out games for fans, end the complicated web of streaming services and cut costs for viewers across the country.” The bill would require leagues to provide local fans with access to all of their teams’ games in one single location (either on TV or streaming) for free. According to Baldwin’s calculations, Wisconsin sports fans currently would need to pay more than $1,500 per year to be able to watch all of the Packers, Brewers and Bucks games across multiple services.

TLDR; they’re basically pushing back on the fact people hate how everything is separated up and you have to pay for different services. Saying they should still keep everything separate and also should be allowed to raise their prices accordingly.

They also believe they should be allowed to buy the rights to show major live sporting events, due to their popularity, but a game-by-game basis meaning you would have to subscribe to them to watch a specific game instead of it being on your cable/satellite package. Thus encouraging new sign ups to their services.

I’ve never used Prime Video. But Netflix hasn’t had good quality original content in years. And any high quality content on YouTube is entirely user generated, they’re basically a glorified hosting site.

prime isn't much better, it has a really stupid UI too where you have to specifically select the "Included in Prime" category because half the stuff on the homepage you still have to rent/buy

mother, what must i do?

I had heard that, I think that’s what puts me off that their actual library of movies is so small I’d heard everything else requires a secondary subscription to another service or to buy/rent everything.

I have it. There are ads now too. They make you pay an extra £2.99 to stream ad free :flop:

Girl… let’s just bring back satellite/cable as it used to be because these streamers are going that way anyway. Live TV streams, specific catalogues, original programming, ads and now they are prioritising repeat viewings and subs to decide what is worth keeping series wise.
