There was a terrorist attack in Quebec, Canada weeks ago at a Mosque and my aunt texted me and she said "The shooter is a Quebecer, so it's not a terrorist attack thank god but stay safe".

LOTS of people still think terrorist = someone from another country/Muslim person, unfortunately...

Clearly they do, but there has been zero evidence of that in this circumstance.

Update: 5 people dead (incl. the islamistic terrorist) and at least 40 people injured, many in critical condition.

Today, exactly one year ago, the horrible islamistic terrorist attack occurred in Brussels (Belgium) - with 35 people dead (incl. 3 islamistic terrorists) and over 300 people injured.

:(

I'm glad the terrorist died, no pearly gates of Heaven or virgins for you. RIP to the victims.

Naah, would have been better if he lived.

Let him spend the rest of his days in solitary confinement and let him lose his mind over the decades he would spend with no interaction with another human apart from those few seconds he sees someone who hands (or forces) him food.

Probably the worst torture you could put someone through.

He can rot in piss and fire.

My friend's friend works for security in this area and apparently he switched shifts... he could have beeb killed if he was there today.

I think it's better for the victims families knowing he is dead. He wouldn't have 'rotted in prison', look at Anders Behring Breivik.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but a lot of my advertisements on Facebook and Twitter are part of the "counter terrorism" campaign by the government.

I hate to speculate but we must be on an extremely high alert for them to override usual advertisements.

Also @StrawberryBlond I'm not sure where you get the idea that terrorism is defined by a team of Asian/Muslim extremists, especially when the history of terrorism in the UK definitely includes the IRA attacks and such. I agree that we need to change our perception and language with regards to broader issues they also entail, but in this case labelling an attack on the UK parliament as a terrorist attack doesn't surprise me. I also haven't seen any ties to islam extremism yet, unless you could share a new development I may have missed?

Well, that's unfortunately what a lot of people in my country define it as (and in America too). When it's not Muslim extremism, it tends to be called something else but not terrorism. Does a huge disservice for the Muslim community, associating it with such an 'exclusive' term.

And yes, the man has been identified as a Muslim extremist. He was known by the police for a good number of years and had served time in 3 prisons. Its been speculated that he could have been radicalised in there. He apparently changed his surname to Masood at some point, for inexplicable reasons. The suggestion is that even though he was Asian, he maybe wasn't raised Muslim and turned to it later in life, or at least that's what I interpreted from a news report. I've just seen that report, I haven't researched it any further. A lot of the information is still ongoing. The police are still trying to discover if he acted alone and have already carried out further raids and arrests.
