RadioIsOurs 13,876
I think there's only one assailant so far, which is the driver and the stabber. The gun shots are from the police.
Guest
Italian news talked about two suspected terrorists, a white man and an asiatic with beard. I checked online but can't find others reporting this

I checked online but can't find others reporting this According to the News channel I'm watching, there was only one attacker (Asian) and they stopped another man but it seems like the other is either not connected or they're keeping it under wraps until they have the information they need from him. StrawberryBlond 15,565
Surprised more people aren't talking about this. I've been watching the whole thing unfold since the story first broke, heard all the deaths come in one by one. This place is supposed to be under such tight security that it really proves that nowhere is safe. I wish they would stop mis-using the word 'terrorism,' though. Saying "we don't know the motive yet but we're treating this as a terrorist attack" just reinforces the idea that terrorism is defined by a team of Asian/Muslim extremists causing terror for religious reasons. In reality, anyone can be a terrorist, of any race, religion or motive. It can be a group effort or you can act alone. It can large-scale terror or small-scale. It can involve terror of an entire country or of one person. Terrorism is, as the word suggests, about causing terror, nothing more or less. So, one person deciding to go out shooting people in the street for the fun of it is an act of terrorism in the exact same way that 9/11 was an act of terrorism. So, saying that this incident is being treated as an act of terrorism shouldn't even need to be said, it's obvious. We need to dramatically change our perception of what the word 'terrorism' means because it's reinforcing bad stereotypes and making the people who use the word look bad. RockySayTalk 504
I'm very impressed by the reaction of all emergency services involved, police and hospital staff. My thoughts are will those affected, but I think it's very reassuring to see how on top of it the security services are, the damage he inflicted was quite minimal if you think of what could have happened, although speculating motives is probably too early at this point. Also @StrawberryBlond I'm not sure where you get the idea that terrorism is defined by a team of Asian/Muslim extremists, especially when the history of terrorism in the UK definitely includes the IRA attacks and such. I agree that we need to change our perception and language with regards to broader issues they also entail, but in this case labelling an attack on the UK parliament as a terrorist attack doesn't surprise me. I also haven't seen any ties to islam extremism yet, unless you could share a new development I may have missed?

There was a terrorist attack in Quebec, Canada weeks ago at a Mosque and my aunt texted me and she said "The shooter is a Quebecer, so it's not a terrorist attack thank god but stay safe". LOTS of people still think terrorist = someone from another country/Muslim person, unfortunately...

I see what you're saying, but I don't think a nationality was announced yet? or any claims from any groups or anything, so labelling it as terrorism at the moment seems like the right thing to do no? I guess we'll see how they follow this through in the media and such, definitely something to keep in mind though yeah

That's not strictly true, something only becomes 'terror' when the aims of the attacks or actions are political. Since we don't know whether the attacker had political aims yet, it would be wrong to label this event as terrorism, although the likelihood of this is high since it was at the Palace of Westminster.
