Sheldon Whitehouse said Tuesday that FBI Director James Comey promised to tell him Wednesday whether the FBI is investigating ties between Russia and the campaign of President Donald Trump. The Rhode Island Democrat said that Comey made the promise in a March 2 meeting with him and Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina. According to Whitehouse, Comey assured them he would confirm if an investigation exists "and the scope of their Russia/Trump investigation because he had not been able to at that point say that there was one." Whitehouse and Graham both asked the Justice Department last week to provide any evidence that would support Trump's claims that former President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower. It's no secret that they were trying to influence the outcome but, like, what if a presidential election was actually tampered with directly to the point that the outcome changed? Would Hillary and Kaine be put in? Would Trump be impeached and Pence would be put in office? Or would Trump and Pence get taken out making Paul Ryan president? That depends on the outcome of an investigation that may or may not be happening, as well as on ties that may or may not exist for Trump or Pence. If they are both implicated, and the investigation is true and it has found ties, they will be impeached one by one, probably within the same days/weeks. If only Trump is implicated, Pence will fall in succession. If Pence is also implicated, and doesn't have time to pick a VP, the job will fall to our favorite Republican Majority Leader, Mr. Paul Ryan. I think if they find Trump directly worked with Russians to influence the election, he will be impeached and Pence will say he had no knowledge, which he probably didn't and they left him out of the loop strategically. I don't think there's a mechanism in American politics to redo the election or install the runner-up in the white house. Then the republicans will pass all their BS bills and we'll be screwed still. We're just screwed. For a while. Sorry I'm really pessimistic tonight. It's just so annoying this is our government now and there's no way to fix it save for voting in 2 & 4 years and even then the chances are slim because of racist gerrymandering and voter ID laws. If a man can be elected for spreading lies about Obama and get away with calling the media "fake" or get away with degrading women (and not just about grabbing the ***) then there is no hope for this. The only way Trump will ever get in trouble is when someone leaks everything. No allegations. No ifs or buts.
