ApplauseftAdele 4,730 Posted March 12, 2017 Share Posted March 12, 2017 Ok dont come for me because this is just my opinion... but I noticed a trend in Gaga's popularity/reception of her videos, not even from the GP, but from this fanbase. Whenever she released a video this era, there was always some complaining and some support, but if she includes these 3 things then NOBODY Complains : Sex, Violence and Power. I remember reading this somewhere but these 3 themes are core to all of Gaga's most iconic/best videos (Paparazzi, Telephone, Bad Romance, Alejandro, Judas, You and I, GUY, John Wayne), and its something that ALL of the fanbase wants to see from her again. Our fanbase had mixed reviews of PI and MR, but when it came to John Wayne, which featured these 3 themes very explicitly, I dont think I saw a single complaint. These 3 themes are what made Gaga who she was and the image that she created back in 2010. And I honestly think the GP wants to see this from her again.... after all Judas has even more views than Born This Way, her lead. The GP wants to see her go back to her old image, which might be why they werent as willing to buy Applause/Perfect Illusion, which dont really showcase these themes. These 3 themes are what makes Gaga unique, and no other artist can combine them in the ways that she has. Her most iconic moments feature all 3... People want to see sex and violence because it's fun, that's why horror movies are popular, sex is used in a lot of pop music videos etc. It awakes your senses. It doesn't mean her work that doesn't include these themes are not good. She does amazing things when she talks about fame, love (as a whole), equality, depression... Panchecco 17,716 Posted March 12, 2017 Share Posted March 12, 2017 I wouldn't say "violence" though, just because it doesn't seem right imo I'd rather say "shock value" or "weirdness" or just "strong images" but yeah, I agree, those 3 themes represent "GAGA" quite well: a strong brave woman who isn't afraid af anything I guess the point of Joanne was to show that, despite evrything, there's actually a real woman behind that image, behind "GAGA" and I actually think it was good for Stefani to "take a break" from Gaga (or maybe extend the break she started with CTC) I'm sure she'll return to her origins in the future and the SB was actually almost a flashback to her old days (or rather a vision from her future) Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
