mess... that was one of the ICONIC moments of the era

I disliked it back then but now it's my favorite part of the performance. It's badass :classy:

This isn't my point and this isn't what I meant. Fine, I took a 'break' from Gaga because I was a 13 year old kid who was exploring the world and didn't even know what 'slaying' was.

It's clear from this I'm very respectful about Gaga, about her being more than her 'popularity'.  Can you not be so judgemental?

At the time, like a lot of people, I had given up on Gaga. In 2013, I was around for Applause, I made an HMV poster for the release ( it got into top 9:classy:), but by 2014, I was annoyed, angry and confused at what had happened to the hope I had for ARTPOP and its success. ( I know the truth now )

then if u didnt leave because of the flop, erase that part sis :diane:

She was hurt but also strong, loud and free for all the reasons you mentioned.

Ugh, i know, i was ****ing living    that was such a strong performance + i always stanned so hard for Swine since the iTunes fest, i just loved it

I loved this performance because of it's dark and angst filled message it's kind of funny and a little sad that everyone was screaming about how ugly the performance was and how it was "promoting bulemia" when she literally is singing a song that explicitly alludes to rape and she even basically mentions it before the performance. It's meant to be messy and angry and distraught because like the song the visuals match the feeling of being raped and (as I said in an analysis of the song on hear about 2 years ago) the song feels like it's inspired by the mental feeling of being drunk, drugged, raped and violated. So the visuals showed that too

Hey, I bought the album thank you very much. :hor:

Sometimes I think LM  didn't help the whole ARPTOP 'flop' thing, the album has sold 2.5 million copies and + Gaga literally doesn't care if people think it flopped. She loved it, so leave it be.

GAGA DOES CARE, THIS BS ABOUT HER HATING OR GIVING **** ABOUT ARTPOP NEEDS TO STOP, lemme educate u a lil sis:

Gaga admits that this backlash was “hurtful at times… it doesn’t feel good when you put that much time and work and effort into things, and people make fun of them, or shame you for things you’ve created.” However, she adds: “The thing is, you’re not always going to make something that everybody likes. You can’t be in this for the business of people liking you. That would just not be even the right thing to do! To have such a big voice in the world and to only care about people liking you — what’s the point, really? When I’m making records, I’m never thinking, ‘How can I make this something that’s accepted?’”

SXSW performance and interview were both FLAWLESS. So blunt, so raw, so dirty, and so ALIVE AND HUMAN. I couldn't ask for anything more than what that performance was. I do and always will love this concert. So awesome.

Her SXSW performance is jarring.  It is the Gaga performance artist I feel like we all know from TFM (and BTW--oh hell, every era).  But I'm often torn in citing an "era" that means "gaga" to me....certainly TFM...freaking iconic...but AP and SXSW almost override the others.  BTW was cohesive and unifying but I'd almost put AP and TFM on a similar pedestal in regards to her performance art, looks, videos, messages and so forth.  Catharsis and disgust seemingly have a symbiotic relationship and I thank her for that as it relates to all areas of life.

I'm not 'coming back' because CTTR is 'doing bad'.. I really don't care about that. I began to become more influenced by Gaga and her music as I got older..

Can you stop trying to 'drag me' and instead appreciate that not everyone is the same in 'leaving gaga for flopping' and 'coming back when she's successful'. What I meant was that I was a young person who didn't know much about the industry, I loved Gaga but stopped seeing her (especially in the UK) and thus my interest dwindled. Therefore I was disappointed, but didn't understand what was happening at the time.

Yes of course she was disappointed but she knew that the album had done well. Again, what I meant was she didn't care for those who wanted to s*** all over her constantly. The interview after SXSW she said about the fact the album sold well in comparison to the pop market at the time. What I'm trying to say is, of course getting hate hurt but she didn't care for the hate. She knew she had done well, she was just disappointed everyone turned it the opposite way.

Besides all this, is not entirely anywhere near the point I was trying to make. I was trying to suggest of the way in which her creativity and talent is boundless to any of these things. I was celebrating her, why did it need to turn into something negative?

anyway yes glad I came back yay

I've never seen Gaga at SXSW in 2014, tonight was my first time. Really today and the last few days have been a time where I've been stressing and worrying about things (like most of us here, I'm sure), so I decided to watch SXSW because it's something that had so much controversy around (I've only seen parts of Swine) and I never fully gave it a chance.

At the time, like a lot of people, I had given up on Gaga. In 2013, I was around for Applause, I made an HMV poster for the release ( it got into top 9:classy:), but by 2014, I was annoyed, angry and confused at what had happened to the hope I had for ARTPOP and its success. I didn't care about whether it was popular or not, I was a 13 year old kid who was exploring the world, I don't care for the chart success ( I know the truth about what happened now, anyway )

But watching the show tonight, I realised that this was Gaga at her most vulnerable and her most torn, but perhaps more importantly, her most real. She blew all the boundaries. I read a comment on the performance of Swine that said that Interscope couldn't control her anymore, she had rebelled against the pop world and the industry too much, she had won the battle against conformity. On the other hand, they couldn't let her go, she's too talented, as shown, she could ride on a pig whilst having an artist throw up coloured drink onto her, and yet, even today, she could still have another #1 album, sell out arenas, and perform at the Superbowl only 3 years later.
tumblr_okyffkhlug1sa3fuko2_500.gif

However, really, none of this mattered. This was Gaga at her roots. Her creative roots, clear by her working with Millie, she would push all boundaries to show people what her art really meant. Her personal roots, where she was with the people who made her, Lady Starlight and The Dirty Pearls, all those of The Lower East Side, showing how you should never give up on who you are. Whether you become a Gaga, with fame and money, a Starlight or a Dirty Pearl, who many people haven't heard of, you will always find happiness if you are true to yourself. Most importantly, this was Gaga as herself. Stefani Germanotta. This was who she is. Unafraid, rebellious, bold, new, different, honest and talented. Truly talented.

It's funny that it seemed as if Gaga didn't want to play pop music, she didn't want to suggest she was famous anymore, or that she was anyone other than the rock girl, who jumped off the stage with her famous friends and wrote music to anyone who would listen in the 2000's.

hqdefault.jpg

What makes all of this even more ironic, is that the only thing people remember this performance for is the controversy. Under all this emotion, all this feeling, all this relation with the crowd, she was still ignored by me, the media, the world.

Only someone who is THAT talented would still be praised and loved by people all over the world, after every rebellious act she did, every barrier she broke in the world around us. But what Gaga, ultimately, is trying to say, is that it's not because she's was successful and became famous, it's because she stayed true to herself and her talent.

Her music is a guide for us all to follow.

"They're not going to care how famous I was, they're gonna care about what you leave here on this earth, your footprint, they're gonna care about who's lives you saved, people that you touched... they knew they weren't alone... be that for each other right now. Don't give up, don't let the machine and technology take you into a place where you don't belong, stay right here on the Earth, we need you. We need you to have crazy thoughts in your head.. dreams.. fight for them everyday, don't not do it because you think it'll never happen, don't think that it can't ever happen because it can. I promise you. It's happening to me right now"

Imma be honest. ARTPOP is my fave album but some of the performances and things she did are somewhat disturbing. I never abandoned her, but I was disturbed by that Swine performanxe. Some other things she did were a little just too much for me.
