MJ, Madonna, U2, Paul, Cher continually got hits for over 30+ years. If Gaga can't get hits after 10 years, she is not a legend. To be a legend you need to be relevant and get hits for a continuous amount of time. You need to sell out world tours 30 years into your career, ect. U2 is selling out stadiums, Madonna sold out stadium, Paul sells out stadium after stadium, Bruce, Rolling Stones, ect. and they are over 30 years into there careers. Time will tell with Gaga Then Gaga could be a legend in the making! Gaga's probably in a similar place in that respect to where Madonna was during the Bedtime Stories era. ARTPOP and its backlash could be compared to Erotica and its backlash. She's on her way! We'll have to wait and see though! Gaga's certainly shining through in new ways. Not only is she showcasing her talent like wild lately, but she's getting hits out of un-radio-friendly music like MR. It's certainly looking good for her future, I just don't want to jinx it! If you cannot easily get hits less then ten years into your career then you will not reach legend status. It is as simple as that. HOWEVER Gaga has managed to be in this weird middle ground for some time now where she is getting just enough success to remain relevant and is respected for her artistry and talent but that praise is not translating into sales (up until SB of course) or extravagant album Metacritic scores. She is being praised solely on her skills and performance abilities alone. If with her next era she manages to transfer the praise she keeps getting for her live showmanship to her actual music then she will be critically acclaimed and that could also help with her sales (it has been proven in the past that when Gaga's music is praised by critics it tends to sell VERY well because people tend to pay more attention to it or tend to want to give it a chance in general). What I will also add is that without Gaga's PURE and RAW talent then we could of said goodbye to Gaga chart success but because she is so talented she managed to re convince the GP to give her a chance and it is helping the Joanne era and will hopefully help her next era out. Basically everything will fall down to her next era at this point. Everything since 2014 has been her healing her public image and relationship with the GP. The next era will tell us if Gaga is going to possibly enter legend status in the future or will she just remain in this sort of medium success limbo she is currently in forever. Anyway, Gaga isn't smashing right now, but I agree, she is floating just enough for relevancy. She just needs to keep showcasing her talent and find a good balance with artistry and marketability.
