You're right, her fans will be growing up. I know when I was a teenager that my musical taste changed up pretty rapidly and my faves changed every couple of years. The Spice Girls were taken over by Britney, who was then taken over by Avril, closely followed by Christina, then Gaga (in dual position with Lana). That's not even including all the artists in between who I only bought 1-2 albums from (Vanessa Carlton, Stacie Orrico, Evanescence, KT Tunstall), not to mention many other artists who I liked somewhat but never actually bought their albums. I mean, I was at university when Katy started out and I thought she was ok but by the time TD ended, I was pretty much over her. Can you imagine how a kid or teenager with a low attention span will feel? If I was 13 when I liked Roar, I would think it was too childish by the time I was almost 17, for example. I would think it was cringey how much I liked a certain song back then. When young people think something isn't cool, it's WAY out. That's why Gaga suffered so much post-BTW. She was now considered too weird, too much for the gays, too cheesy, too tryhard, too whatever. And its also why she's never truly come back strong. When you're no longer considered majorly cool by the youth market, you've got to mature or you will fail.

I've been saying for a while that she's waiting too long. Her album apparently isn't coming out until summer (making it June at the earliest) meaning that it'll be 3 years 8 months since her last album, her longest ever wait. I think she's aiming to release 2 singles pre-album to build up the hype so she'll get amazing first week sales but honestly, the time taken before the album could have a negative effect in today's music world, that trick worked back in the day but not now. Most albums now are released within a month of the lead single, you have to strike while the iron is hot. She had no reason to take such a big break after Prism. It was successful, yes, but not TD successful. She only had 2 #1's from it, a big step down from TD. The remaining 2 singles flopped. That isn't the track record of an album that requires a long break. Rise could be just the beginning of a surprising downfall for her. CTTR doesn't scream "I'm back" like Roar did, it's not commanding enough. It's too mature for her young fans and too boring for her older fans. Katy's mid-tempo songs and ballads have always notoriously struggled to do well in the charts. I'm sure this will be her most trying era for her. She'll be lucky to get any #1's in this current climate and as for album sales, that's all up in the air. As for touring sales, she won't be able to go to half the places she went to last time because she's drained the market. She might have more chart success than Joanne, but not at Prism-level or higher.

Nah. Outside of music forums, no one realizes the time between eras. The GP simply doesn't keep track of something like that. If you release a good enough song and radio supports the hell out of it (like they will with every single Katy puts out from this album), it will become a hit.

I don't know. Gaga only waited just over 2 years between BTW and AP and yet, people were saying at the time "She's still around? I can't remember the last time she came out with something" and the album largely passed the public by. I'm shocked at how quickly the world can move on but that's the way of things. To me, Roar feels like it was released ages ago. It feels like Katy's entire chart dominance was a long time ago. She's heading towards an Xtina level break with this album and we know how that worked out for her. The public may not know how long specifically it has been between albums, but they do have some sense of time scales. They know when someone's never left and when someone's been gone a long time. And the chart performance of artists songs certainly shows how relevant they think these artists are. And as for radio supporting her? Clearly they didn't with 3/5 singles from Prism. Now with her being 3.5 years older and radio being consistently ageist, who knows how much they will support her?

this is an entertainment based website. It's a place to analyze. I wouldn't say its putting it down, its an observation
