Nobody is saying people can't change, nobody is saying we have to keep hating and holding grudges - but it's relevant. Trump never even apologised for spreading such a racist conspiracy, he bragged about how he answered the question. Obama did the right thing, of course, but it's a little bit of a slap in the face to see the first black president replaced by the main proponent of a racist conspiracy theory aimed at delegitimizing the first black POTUS. I think I understand, as well as anybody, why Trump was elected That doesn't make it more comfortable to see the first black president replaced by the man who spent 8 years asserting that he was an illegitimate president born in Kenya. Of course that is an uncomfortable thing, not just for me, but for a lot of people. Of course that feels like a punch in the gut to a lot of people. You can't expect people to feel differently. A lot of people feel uncomfortable, a lot of people feel disappointed. It's totally unreasonable to expect people to stop feeling certain ways You can understand the failings of the Democratic establishment and still feel gross that Obama is being replaced by one of the main proponents of the Birther conspiracy.
