Pence will be sworn in to office on the west front of the United States Capitol. 6 a.m.: Gates will open to the Capitol grounds. 9:30 a.m.: Inaugural ceremony begins. Trump and President Barack Obama will meet at the White House and ride to the inauguration together, as is traditional. 11:30 a.m.: Opening remarks begin. Mike Pence will be sworn in as vice president by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Noon: U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. administers the oath of office to Trump. The new president will deliver his inaugural address and then have lunch at the Capitol with members of Congress. Following the inauguration, Obama will take one last flight on Air Force One, which also is traditional. His destination is Palm Springs, Calif. 3 p.m.: Inaugural parade begins down Pennsylvania Avenue NW from the Capitol to the White House. 7 p.m.: Inaugural balls. There will be three official balls this year. His destination is Palm Springs, Calif. Oh man, can you imagine how that feels? What kind of thoughts would Obama have during his flight? What will the staff think of, saying their last goodbyes? I can imagine Obama sitting in his airplane seat, and after takeoff, he lets go of a big sigh he's been holding for 8 years. It's the end of his era. I fell down the stairs once as an actor. Genuinely sickening that Obama has to share a ride with Trump, a man who for years perpetrated a racist myth that he was born in Kenya, to his inauguration where this racist man will replace him as president. I mean, does that not make you actually feel ill? Trump was the leader of a racist conspiracy movement that tried to claim Obama was an illegitimate president by saying he was born outside of the U.S and now Obama has to ride with this man to his inauguration. It really does. All joking aside... this is like a bad dream, or an alternate reality. I can only imagine how profoundly sad this is, deep down, for Obama. Truly sickening. I actually feel physically ill. I've been very invested in this election and this is so horrifying. Only in America will you go from electing the first African American president after a history of slavery and racial segregation to electing a man with no experience who's rhetoric gave validity to sentiments of racism and hysteria among the general population.
