Muscletank 410
So I listened to the full album the other day in the car, from start to finish. It had been a while but I couldn't help but feel this had got an unfair rep. Other than Jewels N' Drugs, most of the tracks are top notch. Great hooks, funky production and several potential singles. Why Gypsy was not a single I will never know. I wasn't around the forums here at that time, but what was the feeling? I think it's stood the test of time very well. BABBLYON 2,072
Some people we’re angry that it was flopping for it’s time (even though it didn’t) and people started to dislike it more than TF, TFM, and BTW. No one @ me because this is true. I, personally, enjoyed ARTPOP, but some people may just not like it. Also, Gaga wasn’t very happy during the ARTPOP era so it was also a sad time for monsters too. Muscletank 410
Why did they never release that video for DWUW?

BABBLYON 2,072
Just now, Muscletank said: Why did they never release that video for DWUW? The DWUW video wasn’t released because it’s radio airplay was starting to fall and the video was very racy and inappropriate, so i believe Gaga’s team just stopped the release of the video. Logan 20,725
I think the problem was that it didn't have a cohesive idea. It was just a bunch of random music. It was difficult to go from Born This Way which had a consistent sound and theme about loving yourself to ARTPOP that didn't really have a clear message or target other than strange performance art that most people didn't understand and weed. I also think after her injury she never really got a chance to catch up, and was constantly pressure by fans to put out music, so the strange mashup of music is what we got. Personal opinion, but I get confused when people say ARTPOP is their favorite album out of all of them. I certainly don't think it's her best in terms of writing, looks, or message. Elizabeth 450
The media positioned it as a flop from the off, since despite it selling on par with other big female releases that year, it didn't perform as a well as Born This Way, so that had HUGE influence on perceptions of the album. Alongside this, things were obviously not great for Gaga in terms of her relationship with management/Troy etc. so there seemed to be nothing stable in terms of promotion etc., there was obviously a constant battle between what Gaga wanted and what Troy wanted, ultimately leading to Gaga's decline in happiness. Everything was messy and nothing had any continuity, it was all quite erratic. There were many ideas which were great, but never carried out to their full potential. Then on top of it all there was the DWUW controversy with R-Kelly and the Terry Richardson music video which didn't position Gaga very well in the media yet again. SO much **** happened during the promotion of this album that it would've been incredibly difficult for any artist to have had a "successful era" under the circumstances. ARTPOP is great but it will always be underrated.
SpookyKid 15,153
I think it's a really good album, I like it even more than The Fame Don't dare to touch my girl Jewels 'N Drugs, she's my foster child But the era itself is the thing that most people don't like, Gaga wasn't happy, we got no promo, 2 videos and messy single changes Life has a hopeful undertone |-/
GhettoFabulous 18,501
Because I think it was labelled a "flop" and as soon as it was everyone turned their backs. ARTPOP is a masterpiece in everyway. I personally love it from track 1-15. I get the broken promises part but that's no reason to hate the album yes I hated the era it was disappointing cuz ARTPOP was supposed to be THAT album, visually(didn't delive that much) musically (delivered) I mean she collaborated with Marina and all those ppl it really is certainly better than some stuff released in the past years

Ronk 14,762
Jealousy. Fans of other artists got tired of Gaga dominating the scene, winning the awards, getting the sales, being on the talk shows and magazine covers. So they spread so much hatred about Gaga, and the public believes what they hear and doesn't check to see if what they hear is true. People were conditioned to hate ARTPOP. I live outside the space time continuum.
