migamiga 12,102
Every artist that has been mentioned here so far has deserved their legend status. I might not be fans of all of them, but I think they each deserve it in their own way Jay Z on the other hand......

Male singers get away much more easily for their singing ability, If lady gaga ever came out performing sounding like this ^ pawsdownlittlemonsters and ATRL OGH would have a field day. He's nobodys Beyonce, Christina or Whitney when it comes to live singing, he's Miley at best. And now to his song writing, take a look at space oddity lyrics, sound like its been literally written by a fifth grader http://www.lyricsfreak.com/d/david+bowie/space+oddity_20036711.html I didn't say he was the greatest vocalist of his generation, but the post I replied to said he was awful live, which is incredibly unfair. He had a sound, and when he sung live he sounded just like his recordings, sometimes even better. When Rihanna starts putting out music that sounds like she does live, we can talk about her. Also Bowie isn't remembered for being the greatest vocalist, he's remembered for being Bowie. To say he's overrated in any way is an insult to his legacy. There is no current state of pop culture without Bowie. There isn't a Lady Gaga without Bowie. As for his songwriting, I think space oddity isn't 5th grade level, and considering it was released days before a spaceship launch it obviously served his purpose. Go look at the lyrics of Changes. THOSE are great lyrics. ARTPOP is my favorite album don't come for my name

LaLuna 12,732
Madonna. Her biggest talent has always been marketing and reinventing herself. Vocally and musically speaking, she's average at best. Beyoncé. I don't consider her a legend yet, but she's definitely the most overrated artist of this generation. I also consider The Beatles to be overrated to an extent. You can't deny their impact, they're pretty much the most influential band of all time. But while I do enjoy their music, I don't think they were the geniuses people make them out to be.
