Overrated Legends

MJ. I love his music, he was a great musician and dancer, but I just hate it how nowadays all popstars who lipsync even just once or every now and then, get slammed. However MJ lipsynced quite a bunch and no one ever says anything! :wtf:

It's just you seemed very annoyed by my opinion, so I took it to be that you were defending Madonna from anyone who didn't think she was the best. If you had nothing against my point of view, why did you quote me acting like my way of deciding if someone deserved their legend status or not was wrong? If all you want is intelligent reasoning behind my choices, just politely ask for it without being confrontational and accusatory.

I apologize if it came out that way. I hope that my recent response shows you no ill will against you or anyone. I still think she is one of the greatest, i just find sad that this generation don't see her worth even when gaga herself has professed her  admration for madonna's career.

This whole post just goes against Gaga's message of love. They're legends in their own right. And we're still talking about them today which just proves their impact. :hor:

David Bowie, he sounded awful live, and his song-writing was mediocre at best. But he was unique in style so I'll give him that.

I respect your opinion but oh man his music is soooo good and is songwriting is top-notch especially on Hunky Dory.

Apology accepted. I understand what it's like to be defensive about someone who's one of your favourites. I think a lot of Gaga fans have had to do that and I've had to defend Lana a lot too. But sometimes, you just have to step back and realise that you can't change some people's minds when they've done the research but still aren't impressed and that differing opinions is partly the beauty of art interpretation. I think some of us have answered this question a bit differently to others. I've approached it more like: "I accept that these people are legends, they've worked hard, they've had continued success, their music has made an impact and they are still remembered all these years later...but I just wish they had achieved this success with better music." That's all. I'm not disputing their title of 'legend,' just disputing the quality of the music that gave them this title. Because you don't have to be talented to be a legend (not that anyone I listed is talentless). The general belief is that to be a legend, you have to be successful and to be successful, you need good songs. So, if you don't make good songs, you won't have success and you won't be a legend. Or so it goes. But some people have become legends despite releasing a lot of mediocre work and I sometimes just wonder why so many people liked it. Or the other side of the coin is that someone can become a legend through making a style of music in a way that isn't very good...yet someone who makes this style brilliantly never achieves success, acclaim or legend status that they deserve. That's why I listed Taylor Swift and Adele under the 'future over-rated legends' category.

You have to understand that the current generation are only viewing Madonna through her recent material at an advanced age. Therefore, she will be viewed as embarrassing and tryhard in the eyes of the people that she's ironically trying to impress. When you're her age, young people will just view you as irrelevant, no matter who you are. Teens back in the 50's weren't interested in listening to the music their parents liked, they thought these new, young stars were the bee's knees. Why should it be any different now? We tend to think that the music that comes from our generation is the best, it's just human instinct. Sorry, but I'm not going to like an artist just because Gaga does. At least she does seem to be inspired by the best of Madonna, I'll give her that.

Madonna, a lot of the things she's credited for and "innovated" existed long before her and she's a terrible dancer and vocalist no one can tell me otherwise. Kinda embarrasses me when people compare gaga to her yikes.

Janet was always better

I have been a rock'n roll and metal fan all my life, but to be honest, I think a lot of rock music is overrated, without going into specific artists. I think there is such a thing as rockism. Many rock music fans pretend their music is deeper than pop music, but a lot of it isn't.

Agree with most of this, but Madonna was never really a bad dancer; especially in heyday, when her rhythm and technique were better than Gaga's.

The Beatles.

Michael Jackson is overrated. Sure, he was an amazing artist and performer. But he's overrated. People give him too much credit. Madonna too.

This is not about hating anyone. We're just commenting why some people are overrated, but that doesn't discredit their achievements or their legacy. It's just to give the credit where the credit is due.

I think current pop singers are waaaaaaay more overrated than those whom we call "legends". But that's just my opinion :stalkga:

OKAY IM FINNA SAY IT SO YALL SHOOK ASS BITCHES BETTER BE READY...

If there was a female pop star who has been the leading vocalist in the best selling female group of all time, has arguably the best dance skills and one of the absolute best voices, been critically acclaimed throughout her entire career, been nominated for the most grammys of any female artist,  and have been fully relevant (i dont mean making music, but central to the conversation of pop music) for nearly two decades and was a PRETTY WHITE WOMAN-- all of you hunties would be wetting yourself, and not just the ones who recognize beyonces significance both within and outside of the colored community

You know what it is for me with Beyonce? It's like watching a Swiss clock. It works perfectly, serves its purpose but the strive to be the perfect performer, woman and what not makes it so boring for me to watch. That's the reason why  I got into Gaga only with ARTPOP. It was sometimes gritty, rough around the edges and just not clean, which to me is far more interesting. That strutting on the runway she did makes many wet their panties, same as the perfect dance moves and struts Bey does but it just does nothing for me. Just give me a raw performance and I'm watching and listening.
