The ones dragging Madonna for her vocals are probably also the ones to praise Lipsynchael Jackson :smh:

At least Janet can actually dance when she does lipsynch... Janet and Madonna are on the same vocal level though tbh

The nerve some of you have by saying Madonna is an overrated legend. The image you think of when you think of a female pop star was literally created by her

Ok i take issue with this statement and when people say this, then it makes sense why some would say she's overrated. Granted, I actually think Madonna is underrated because if you factor people outside of the pop stan/fan world, a lot of everyday people, mainly in the straight white male demographic (who listens to Van Halen/ACDC/Led Zeppelin/Grateful Dead etc.), think she's a talentless cheap corporate barbie. Madonna doesn't have a positive image among this very large group of people and thus her creativity and musical ingenuity is overlooked.

But anyway to respond to what you said, there are other females before and during Madonna's time that in their own ways helped create the modern female pop star as well, most notably I think Janet Jackson. Madonna wasn't solely responsible for this image imo.

That's because you are uneducated. Madonna INVENTED the term female popstar. She was called a "rock star" at the beginning while Michael Jackson was already called a "popstar". Madonna single-handedly laid the groundwork for Britney, Gaga... All the girls.

No. I love Madonna and don't think she's overrated but there were other female popstars of the time like Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Donna Summer, Diana Ross, etc. that helped lay this groundwork...

I say pretty much everyone in music today that media calls "iconic", "legendary", you know who they are. Except Gaga, Gaga is a legend already.

So they are not overrated if their "songs" or their music is good. Ok so this music artist are legendary because they make noises? All sang *songs* that have been timeless.

Whatever. All i get from this comment and thread is that "if i don't like their music they are overrated"  forget their acomplishments. if you don't like their music they are overrated. Got it.

To other people, these songs clicked. With me, they didn't. It's that simple. I'm not saying my word is gospel whatsoever. My opinion is just that, an opinion, not fact. There's no need to take it so personally. I know it's hard when someone doesn't love the same music as you but it's pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

That's basically what overrated means, to an extent. When everyone thinks someone/something is amazing but you don't understand why because you think it isn't that good. This seems to be the definition we all agree upon until we talk about over-rated people in music and suddenly, no one's allowed to have an opinion, they're disrespecting people who have worked hard, they don't have a clue about music, etc. I didn't say that anyone I listed was untalented or completely undeserving of any achievements. I like some songs by all of them. I actually like a fair few Madonna songs, I just think she struggled to make albums were all the songs were amazing, resulting in a lot of ok albums from her. The only ones I truly like are True Blue and Ray Of Light, everything else was ok with a lot of ups and downs (Like A Virgin, Like A Prayer, Erotica, Bedtime Stories), were mediocre or a bit under-par (Music, American Life, Rebel Heart) or were terrible (Madonna, Confessions on a Dancefloor, Hard Candy, MDNA). All my opinion of course, and yes, I know Confessions is a big fan favourite but I only like 2 songs on it and don't get the love. That sounds overrated to my mind. When you think someone is overrated, of course their accomplishments don't matter to you because you don't think they deserve them.

@PopBitch

This is the same response I get and everyone else gets every time they dare to say they don't like The Beatles. It's tiring and predictable. And for the record, I'm British, you're not telling me anything about this band that I don't know or haven't been taught by countless people and media outlets since music started entering my ears. British society has been forcing us to like them for decades and telling us that they're the be all and end all of music and I'm sick of it. The more I'm forced to like something, the more likely I am to go in the other direction. People are free to like whatever music they wish but don't force me into thinking something is amazing when I don't think it is. I've made it very clear in my post that I don't care about talent, accomplishments, inventions or what everyone else thinks of them. If I don't like their music, I think they're over-rated. Each to our own taste and all that. I haven't been nagging you for your opinions.

David Bowie, he sounded awful live, and his song-writing was mediocre at best. But he was unique in style so I'll give him that.

Lady Gaga would not exist without David Bowie.

Just saying...

Something happened on the day he died

Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried

First of all let me start off by saying, lady Gaga would have existed without Bowie lol, you must be next level delusional if you think otherwise, she just might have been less theatrical and with different stage name, that's all; plus her music love didn't even start with Bowie music, it was the records her father played her, nor was he her only idol.

Are you trying to debunk an assertion about Lady Gaga with Lady Gaga herself being the source of this assertion? That does not make any sense. If Lady Gaga says that she would not exist without David Bowie, Lady Gaga would not exist without David Bowie.

Ok go with whatever floats your boat; but my thoughts about Bowie still stands, he was one of the worst voices in the industry,  as he was a bad songwriter.

That's amazing to watch.   I think I might cry.  What a beautiful man he was.

He means Lady Gaga says a lot of stuff that pleases people or fans or that somehow sounds good... But isnt always true or is an exageration

And I agree, cause half the crap she says has to be taken with giant boulders of salt 👀
