PopBitch 1,218
Madonna is a Mother ****er of a legend. She has been looked to by every single pop star coming behind her in some way or another. Her concerts from Blond Ambition on are the absolute benchmark for pop stars and their concerts. You can't even begin to minimize the legend she is. I say this as someone who can't stand her anymore because of her boorishness and pretentiousness and desperation at times. I was brought back in the fold for the amazing Rebel Heart Tour, though, because it was great, but other than that, I can't stand Madonna. That doesn't take away the Madonna I adored and still adore up to about 2010. Madonna can't be isolated into just her songs or a singer. It is what she brought with her music/iconic music videos/iconic concerts, and one ballsy broad who always did it her way, with no men in power over this woman. She is looked up to by so many fans and younger artists because of these reasons. Books written, classes taught about her. Most singers by 40, except the elite, are relegated to doing their hits and maybe throwing in a new song or two. Madonna has toured behind her albums with half of the concert new music and the older songs mostly re-arranged. When she hadn't toured since '93 for, I can't remember, almost 8 years or so, did she come back and do her old hits? Hell, no. It was all of her newer music and a very dark show, The Drowned World Tour. She refused to changed her vision for what she wanted to do. That's very ballsy coming back to tour around age 40 and not worrying about appeasing old fans with hits. There will never be anyone like Madonna again, and even her desperate antics and lots of subpar music these last few years can't tarnish that legacy. It's set in stone. I have never seen a popstar so consistently and artistically tour in concerts like Madonna has. They are usually always way above the standard of the pop princesses of today and unique. Her interludes for years have amazed me. The crowds still come. She is someone who musically kept moving, when many '80s fans didn't like where she went in electronica. Those who chose her as overrated can't begin to understand her place in pop music history for decades. Drowned World Tour - Frozen (The artistry for this performance is stunning, so darkly beautiful. KleinGa 18,177
IMO Madonna. The only thing that she's got going for her is her style, and her general performance and boundary pushing antics. But as a musician vocals should come first and well, her vocals are weak imo. But she's .... idek what to say about her lmao.

Agree with everything but her vocals are weak af. Even many many of those who came after her and who use her for inspiration have 10x better vocal chops than her. Madonna can never be identified as a singer, she was a performer who sang imo

But she's .... idek what to say about her lmao. Well, I guess Neal Young and Bob Dylan are losers, two of the greatest songwriters and artists to ever live. For many fans of pop or music, it's about a signature sound and the music/the songs, not some big belter,, or some generic perfect vocal that sounds like any other. Madonna had a signature tone to her vocals that most loved, even if she wasn't the best singer out there. But Madonna was a huge star, I agree because of a mixture of things, the songs/the music videos/the concert performances and she was a force of nature. Many better singers have nothing else to offer, especially no "it" factor or the legacy of songs that Madonna has left and unique albums. So they fade into the night as time goes on. Madonna can sing Of course, she can be "identified as a singer." Bad Girl on SNL.

Jackal 8
I'm dying at people saying the Beatles and Bowie are overrated. The Beatles didn't just invent a new sound, their music and lyrics are some of the most culturally significant of modern times. Their success isn't exaggerated either, they're literally the most successful musical act of all time. If you thought Gaga's initial impact was massive on fan culture, multiply that by 10 and you have Beatlemania. It was a worldwide phenomenon. As for "their vocals are weak", some of the biggest legends in the world didn't have fantastic voices (Madonna), but their impact on culture is what elevated them. Take Joanne for example. Gaga may be releasing good music and her vocals are as good as they've ever been, but in her search for authenticity and to be seen as a fantastic vocalist she's losing the essence of what made her such a phenomenon in the first place, and her music isn't impacting culture. So in conclusion, you can't just say someone is overrated cos they're not the best vocalist of all time and you don't like their music. These people are legends for a reason. I don't like Elton John, Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin, but I'm not gonna call them overrated. They've earned their stripes.

And saying the Beatles couldn't sing, WTH?, They could sing actually very good. It's like people are judging The Beatles now as singers? How bizarre. I've never heard it said The Beatles couldn't sing. The Beatles wrote their music, played their instruments, and were intricately involved in every aspect of their albums. Paul had amazing range and different vocal tones he could use. Isolated vocals on both songs. JOHN LENNON - lead vocal (Paul sings lead briefly in the middle of the song, then back to Lennon)
The Child 18,997
My eyes are seriously burned after reading all this non sense. Beyoncé & Britney are not legends BUT they will be legends one day. Britney even though she doesn't dance as she used to and lipsynched her whole career earned her place in pop music, just get yourself educated about her. Well for Beyoncé, I have nothing to say, she's not overrated and she's on the path of becoming a legend. And also please stop saying Bowie, Prince, MJ & Madonna are overrated cause that's just false. ‘If religion be the cause of disunity, then irreligion is surely to be preferred.’ ‘Abdu’l-Bahá
