She just needs to keep going. I feel like the Superbowl and another album with Tony would do the job. She alredy is in my opinion anyway

Ok, but what does that have to do with Gaga being a legend though?

Legends aren't only successful for three years. Look at Madonna, she had good sales for 25 years

Well a legendary artist/band to me consistently has quality music AND more than decent commercial performance, leading on most, if not all, metrics.

To lay it out in detail:

Acclaim - Let's be real, most of us thought Joanne was at least getting an 83. Acclaim isn't exactly a strong suit of Gaga these days. I mean we won EMAs so, I guess not that bad

Influence/impact on peers or next generation of artists - we have this from previous eras, but currently, there aren't many artists citing her as an influence, nor is music trying to follow what Joanne started (yet)

Relevance on pop/music culture - She's still a big name, yes. But definitely not the biggest. Just look up Google trends, and you'll see, she hasn't even touched a quarter of her peak back then.

Sales/Streaming - Joanne opened pretty good. Her singles on the other hand. We know how her streaming fares. It's not good

Touring - She's still doing better than most of her peers. I'd wait and see how her touring power fares after the Joanne Rodeo Ball

Don't get me wrong, I would love and wish for Gaga to be a legend. I enjoy Joanne--I've played it at least once daily since release and thrice just today. But I also need to take reality into consideration.

Longevity.

She probably doesn't need a hugely successful era again but she basically needs to keep on releasing and pulling in some attention each release.

Best points of the whole thread! :lana:

Gaga is one of two pop girls I stan for and I gotta say this is very delusional. We aren't in 2009-2011 anymore. So many pop girls have overtaken Gaga in sales, critical acclaim, being the "it" girl. Maybe not all at once but Gaga has very little niche left.

It was a joke but ok. :emma: I agree,

Not sabatoging her career as she always manages to do

even a song the GP clearly loves like Million Reasons might end up flopping :rip:

To stop acting like her life change due to fame is something only she deals with. Gaga is still the same creative art-driven girl that we grew to love, but she got too comfortable going into hiding and not being out there like during her previous successful eras. She says she's accepted that she will never live the same life she had before but I don't think she's done that yet.

Once she gets over her issues or learns to keep them at bay, that's when I see her coming out of this 'mourning' shell to give herself another highly successful era which she needs to reach a legendary status. The legends were tough and dealt with just as much (and more harming) controversial years, and Gaga is always wearing her heart on her sleeve. Focus on your craft, be open to different producers, 'go big or go home'.

I think Gaga has the talent, the diversity, the shock-factor, the social circle, and the intelligence of a legend already. The only thing she is missing right now is high success.

Longevity. And if I'm being honest, I doubt she'll ever be a legend. At least not on the level of the likes of MJ, Prince, Madonna, Elvis... etc. Very few people (if any) will from her generation. Social media has taken over and people don't have the attention span they used to. We'll see in maybe 10-20 years time.

She needs a successful comeback. Otherwise she's not a legend, it's just that simple. She would be considered a flash in the pan. Xtina was huge when she came out then faded away and look at thaT. So Gaga needs a successful comeback. None of the songs on Joanne are gonna do that for her, they just won't.

She is almost already one...almost. None of the current pop girls are even close to that status. All she needs is another successful era
