Kayla 7,595
Ignore people who want to be rude, y'all. The article is in no way attacking anyone, just showing benefits of consuming less meat. I'm not totally vegetarian, but I've really cut out my meat and dairy consumption. The first thing I noticed was that I was trying more foods and liking them more than the meat dishes! Like when I go to Chipotle I actually prefer my burrito without meat or with the sofritas instead. I also had to have a physical exam and blood test to determine rates for a life insurance policy, and when the results came back I was told I was getting their "super preferred rates," and the person phoning me to explain this was pretty impressed because they usually don't give that out. So whenever people are like "but we're meant to eat meat! you're not healthy enough without it!" I'm just like... My grocery bill is cheaper and my life insurance rates are cheaper. Meanwhile my grandfather, a "meat and potatoes" kind of guy, is struggling with health problems relating to diet. Obviously not all veg people are healthy and not all people who eat meat are unhealthy, but when you can be healthy AND sustainable- why not make a few changes to your diet? Honestly I hate how some people are like "I'm going vegetarian!" and just replace everything with freaking soy. Replacing all your meat dishes with soy alternatives is NOT healthier, and it's hella expensive. If you want to cut out meat, you should be replacing it with other vegetables and forms of protein, and a variety of them.

You can make a choice to take stance against abuse towards animals and the earth yourself, no, studies like this will not suddenly change the world, but it can plant the seed in peoples minds. Every movement began with individuals who made a choice to not accept what society sees as 'normal' while it hurts so many, you can help us do the same by joining in refusing to consume or purchase animal products. Veganism is growing in numbers every year, and you have influence over the people in your life with living by example. Omar Vela 2,745
You can go vegan once you're grown up but the problem now it's that there's a lot of idiotic people who are raising his kids that way and it usually ends in anemia and other problems. There has to be a balance

There has to be a balance No, it is completely fine and normal to raise your kids vegan. All you have to to is make sure they are incorporating a variety of fruits and vegetables that give us the nutrients we need. I could say the same thing to you about parents these days who raise their children on meat and fast food which has caused child obsesity in millions. There's even idiots who give their cats "vegan cat food" another level of stupidity -_-

There has to be a balance Why are people concerned about the health of kids when veganism comes up? When my diet was a poptart for breakfast, spaghettiO's for lunch, and a burger and fries for dinner NO ONE was ever like "Whoa, what about your health?" but if you say you're vegetarian or that your kids don't eat meat people magically become nutritionists. I think tofu/soy is natural place to start out, but it's important to find diverse sources of protein and not rely on processed faux "meats". What are your opinions on seitan? Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.

Because it's not true. A vegan diet isn't unhealthy and does not lead to anemia.

But the point I was making is that when I was CLEARLY eating poorly no one stepped in to try and tell me or my mother that I wasn't healthy enough, but the moment someone is vegetarian or a parent announces they feed their child a vegetarian diet they're told of all the dangers, and it's annoying.
