Would you disown a gay family member/friend if they voted for Trump?

I'm Mexican, and I'm gay. My family came from Mexico, I was born in California. It makes me upset to see my cousins/aunts/uncles voting for Trump.. not all, but a couple.. I never let someone's political views change my views on them... but now it's hard... it's hard to accept that some family are voting for the man that would have made it impossible for my mother, my grandmother, my family to come to the U.S in the first place if he was president during their time. If he was president during these last 4 years, I'm not sure gay people would have the right to marry now. Donald Trump is racist towards people of color. He's homophobic. He's sexist. The people voting for him are supporting him and his views. It isn't just about politics anymore. It's about ethics and morals. And it is hard for me to see my family in the same light, when they or their parents are from Mexico, when they all know I'm gay, and they vote for the man that is actively against who they are, and who I am. 

P.S- No I won't disown them, it just hurts, and it shows me a side of them I am not comfortable with.

People who vote for Yes should be ashamed of themselves. This is exactly the opposite of what Gaga wants. We still need to respect and tolerate each other despite our differences and learn to understand each other's views. Even more so for friends and family members.

"Disown" is an extreme word  If i were a parent, no, obviously. I've unfriended racists and sexists and homophobes on Facebook; people I thought were those things before, but who openly declared it thanks to Trump. I don't have time for that level of ignorance and privilege in my life simple as that

I have friends that are Trump supporters. As long as they love and respect me for who I am, we don't have a problem, but if they were to ask why I'm voting for Clinton or say something demonstrably false (like that she's killed people investigation her emails, etc.  ) I'd let them know as respectfully as I feel is appropriate

Pure hypocrisy, I can barely stand the fact that my sister, who was born in the US but spent her entire childhood in our motherland, wants to/probably already has voted for Trump. The only reason I don't disown her is because she's family and blood is thicker than that black ooze in the Fame advert

If it was a friend, though, I would feel no remorse or regret. They should know better than to do that around me as we both suffer under the scrutiny of American society

I mean... Yes, and no. I say no because its totally okay to distance yourself (thats a better phrase than "disown") from people who have radically different views that question your existence or right to respect. It's not healthy to purposefully surround yourself with people who actively wish and campaign against your best interests, for whatever reason that is. 

It's not okay to "disown" a family member; Disowning isn't the same thing as distancing yourself from though.

I'm not American but even I am friends with many people who have totally different views than me. In fact, that's basically my whole life because my whole goddamn country is homophobic. But that doesn't mean I have to become antisocial and believe that everyone is against me. I still try to accept everyone and see the good in them. I just have to make my life out of it. As for your case, I hope you don't immediately dismiss anyone who has different political opinions from you and try to understand the reasoning behind their choices first. Perhaps they value something else more than what you value most. From there, we can all learn to solve our differences, and understand that silence or animosity is not the way to progress as a society.
