That a is a classic Bollywood riff. But even the intro and in general throughout the songs you see little details like this.

pikapika 138
I don't think it's sitar being played in Dancin' in Circles . Rather it sounds like Ektara, an instrument frequently used in rajasthani folk music.
VANTABLACK 7,793
But is "Bollywood " or classical Indian Influence , because Bollywood is pretty electronic/ hip hop/ rock influenced these days .
elijahfan 26,275
Um.... sorry to break this to you, but there's absolutely nothing Bollywood-inspired on this record. As for the sitar, well.... hopefully, the use of Indian classical instruments isn't limited to Bollywood productions, right...? To be pretty honest with you, I did work on a Bollywood film shot in Paris this summer, and believe me, there was 0 sitar on the soundtrack and Joanne sounds nothing like what I heard there

Ha Bollywood can mean anything On topic, Bollywood movie songs are gravitating towards american music, so yeah, but there are still some melodies/ragas that ground most songs to Indian music. To be pretty honest with you, I did work on a Bollywood film shot in Paris this summer, and believe me, there was 0 sitar on the soundtrack and Joanne sounds nothing like what I heard there It's not exactly Bollywood because that's a movie genre lol and not entirely indicative of music from india . but it is for sure classical Indian influence !!! the sitar says so ... And that breakdown at the end, the melodies are reminiscent of Indian songs . Like I just found out recently that toxic by Britney has Indian influence , it samples a really old classic Indian movie that vilolin screeching sound . Which was very common in Indian cinema then But DIC circle IS inspired by Bollywood/ Indian whatever u wanna call it , Gaga said it her self . Kind of like how come and get it by Selena with the Indian Bhangra music /tabla beat. Many people think Bollywood is one sound (sitar) and I'm glad u broke that stereotype . but it's way more , it's rock, electronic , and pop it's also influenced by western music . So it's kind of a reverse Bollywoodian expedition. Bollywood is like the west pop music industry of India (very contemporary and top 40) by describing a western song as Bollywood does a disservice to actual Indian folk music !!
