KarmaPolice 4,731 Posted October 18, 2016 Share Posted October 18, 2016 Now that we listened to Joanne, I couldn't stop thinking that on some songs she was "reusing" some of her ideas from ARTPOP and made them bigger and better. MANiCURE --> A YO Mary Jane Holland --> John Wayne Gypsy --> Million Reasons Those songs share (in their different way) chords, structure, message and style to their previous sisters but somehow Gaga made like a more mature and musically complete version of them. It's like she wanted to make justice to those songs since ARTPOP was classified as unsuccessful by many and made them shine in a new different light. What do you think? I think she wanted to originally release the album similarly to how ARTPOP was released, but re-vamp and do it better. I still to this day think Perfect Illusion is similar to Applause, because of the word illusion, and in the video for Applause, it's all about an Illusion (magician hat, smoke everywhere, her transforming etc.) and the lyrics from Perfect Illusion reminded me so much about how she felt about ARTPOP and her management at the time, not about Taylor at all.. But yes, it's all similar to ARTPOP, however for me it's a continuation from ARTPOP... in the concert (artRAVE) it was kind of like a story... she transforms at the end into the rainbow skitzafrenic looking girl with dreads, all while preforming her "biggest hits" INCLUDING SWINE, and then she rips off her wig during SWINE to show us all her real hair and how real she is, then she appears in her Gypsy outfit and slays us all...and NOW, she's continuing ARTPOPs message with JOANNE, but as her true self, Joanne. ARTPOP, even tho it was a fun trippy EDM album, didn't delivered for me and it came out as a soulless album. Joanne on the contrary conveys Gaga's pain and feelings through each word and each note. Everything is original, just because there's a few of the same chords in the song doesn't mean they're based off one another. Read the OP again...I didn't mean she copied those songs from ARTPOP. I meant that she tried to express her ideas, from music to words, in a better way.
