ShuichiAmy 0
That was the interpretation I came up for the palace scene as well. I just don't really understand what the significance behind the American flag scene is... American Flag=American Dream Something that pretends to be big and worth the pride, but it's really the opposite. It means the love that never existed. A pretended love. Again, that's just how I see it.
StrawberryBlond 14,154
I'm absolutely loving the video for Born To Die. I wish Gaga could make her videos more like this: artistic but not too obvious. Lana's hit the right balance between being straightforward and artistic: it requires a bit of thought, but not to the point of being thoroughly lost. I believe this was meant to show how how some teens romanticise lovers suicide but the reality of it is very different and that it doesn't always go as planned (as shown, one person can survive and the other dies). I know this sounds very morbid but I just hope this song and the album's title doesn't tempt fate for Lana. Considering today's media landscape, the downsides of fame and the recent death of Amy Winehouse after only two albums, such a song and album title may tempt that curse. I mean, Notorious B.I.G named his debut album Ready To Die (I thought of this when I heard the title of Lana's album). Two and a half years later, he was shot dead. Similarly, Amy Winehouse sang songs about death, rebirth and overall heartbreak and depression on her albums and she died very young. Lana's 25 now, two years away from the requirement age for the 27 club. Of course, she doesn't live a lifestyle like either of these two examples, but I just think it's a bit of a gamble naming it such even so.

Haus 152
I'm starting to understand the video and song so much more now 'You and I, we were born to die" is saying that they knew their relationship was destined to fail. Eventually she knew it was time to end it. 'Choose your last words, this is the last time' is saying that this was the last straw with her and she was going to end it. When she walks through the door at the end, then it shows her dead body, it's indicating (obviously) that the relationship was finished. I think he might've actually been trying to avoid her signs and wasn't going to let her end it, because when she said in his ear "We were born to die" he didn't even care. Okay that was really ****ing messy it's hard to explain. But the video is AMAZING and I think this single will do really well it's already getting a lot of attention from big blogs. StrawberryBlond 14,154
Oh God, is like you're wishing the death to Lana Of course not, I'm just shocked that she'd pick such a title. We tend to be told not to joke or put too much emphasis on such serious issues in case they tempt fate in general. It's an artistic statement and one guaranteed to get attention, obviously, but I just think it's a risk to name it such. When Amy Winehouse died, a lot of people said that songs like Rehab and Back To Black sealed her fate of dying young. Plus, Lana's voice sounds so old-fashioned and haunting, it's like she's singing from beyond the grave (which might be the point). Of course, her rich family and her label will keep her on the straight and narrow but still. I'm surprised no one's brought this up. I know, I can be real morbid at times, but I just like to discuss observations.

Well, Video Games, Blue Jeans and Born To Die are a trilogy, so she says. They all deal with one story lyrically, they're all about the same relationship going bad. Video Games is about being with someone who isn't giving you the love you need, even if she keeps wearing his favourite dress, he's too busy playing video games to notice her, he's not all there. Blue Jeans is about him leaving, she remembers when they first met and how good it was, but he said he'd leave and come back and he never did, she sings that she'll love him forever. Born To Die is about the relationship being doomed from the start, she mourns that it all had to die/end, they'd never work. The subject matter is rather depressing, but i doubt it's some warning sign for her incoming death as someone hinted at a few posts up. It's just a break up song, and from what we can tell from the album, much like Adele's "21", it's a break up album too. The first 3 singles are about heartbreak, we also have songs called 'Without You', 'Summertime Sadness', 'Dark Paradise' ect, it's clearly all built around a break up she had. Doesn't mean she wants to die though lol, they're just honest/personal songs that's all. You Can Be the Boss is upbeat and that's meant to be on the album too.....so it's not all morbid ;)
dean 326
Just wow. She absolutely fascinates me. I'm lost for words. That video is AMAZING.
Wolf Boy 3,167
That was the interpretation I came up for the palace scene as well. I just don't really understand what the significance behind the American flag scene is... It's probably nothing, just more of the Americana iconography she uses. However, there is a lot of symbolism in the video and since the song is about about a relationship, and since she is holding her lover with the flag in the background, it could be a cross image of the American Dream as a symbol for the perfect relationship, which is what someone pointed out before. Someone at another forum mentioned why there are tigers in the video, if the church is in fact meant to be the afterlife, in the Hebrew Bible they said spirits were taken to Heaven by two winged cat creatures. Possible connection there i guess, who knows.
PYRAMIDS 0
This video is the PERFECT music video for a Debut Single. It's not too weird and just enough edgy-ness. She also looks beautiful. Simple, comprehendible storyline. Nice visual imagery. Great way to introduce an artist. Cant wait to experience her success. I think i'm gonna start stanning for her now. Yeah, that's what I sorta saw it as. I saw the tigers as, she is heartbroken and needs something strong to protect her heart from being broken again. Like, they're her guard. Wolf Boy 3,167
Well the wya she is sitting, she looks almost like a Queen on a throne, and protective animals as guards isa common image for Ancient King/Queen type of imagery, so it could be that too i guess. Plus, it just looks ****ing cool lol.

ChasingTheGhost 2
Had the video on for the past 5 hours... It's so addicting. Born To Die is about the relationship being doomed from the start, she mourns that it all had to die/end, they'd never work. It's funny to me because I had to walk away from my first love weeks ago, then i discovered her music. Blue Jeans to me reminds me of my relationship with him. Born to Die for me is my awakening song. It just makes me love her even more.
