You are underestimating Gaga

Recently I have read comments like "Don't expect a #1 from Gaga", "Chainmoskers, Sia, ect., are coming, cancel PI", "Don't over-hype yourselves", ect. And to me this obviously shows that you are underestimating Gaga. I mean do you even know who you are talking about. This is the return of LADY GAGA, the global superstar. This is the person that oversold almost all pop acts with her "flop" album, this is the person that sold over 1M copies for a song without a music video, this is the person that sold over 1M copies in a week for one of her albums, this is the person the had the first huge music video on Youtube, this is the person the set the new trends in music, videos, performances, and fashion. This is simply the same person the dominated the world for 3 years. Gaga might have been somewhat dormant during recent times, she might be a different person personally and artistically, but she is still the same person that has the biggest potential in the music industry. She is still Lady Gaga.

Maybe she doesn't care that much about being popular anymore.

What do you think about that.

Enigma.

Her talent can carrie her. And she obviously still has a passion for music, or else we wouldn't be getting PI.

Passion for music ≠ passion for fame

I hate this attitude tbh. How do you pretend to expect crap just so you'll be impressed no matter what?

It's more "expect nothing, get everything"

by not expecting the VMA's, i didn't have a breakdown about not seeing here there

same for GMA, etc

like

she has changed. She's not what she used to be. She's just keeping the name, but I have a feeling we've been dealing with Stefani since early 2015. Not Gaga.

She isn't trying to impress anyone this time around, she has been for every other album maybe with exception for The Fame. I doubt she really cares about a song going number one or not. She's in it for herself, and the likelihood it's going to strike a chord with the general public is low, because, well, look what the general public eats up nowadays. Sure, there's a chance she's going to bring something new to the table and the world will eat it up, but the chances are she's going to put out something not manufactured for the general public, and not something everyone's going to like.

Applause, BTW, Bad Romance, and Just Dance were all just fantastic takes on a mainstream pop genre. PI is produced by Tame Impala and Mark Ronson. It's likely going to be the first lead single that won't even be primarily classified as pop. Chances are it won't be some massive pop anthem.

Nothing was pointing to a VMA performance, though, so it's not a very good example. Everything about Perfect Illusion seems promising, so why should have intentionally low expectations?

Y'all complained when Applause came out cuz it was "too generic" now you'll bitch because PI isn't generic or poppy

I am not saying that she is trying to be successful by manufacturing trendy hits. I am saying that her passion for music, or what you call "she is in it for herself", will actually translate well with the general public simply because her music is almost always very good. Plus she has never really been all that manufactured. Even her safest singles had an edge to them that scream "Gaga".

Yeah but she did all of that when her team was equipped. Don't get me wrong, I am hoping, praying, buying for Gaga to get that #1 with Perfect Illusion and LG5. The music will be of quality, we know that. It's Ronson, Bloodpop, Tame Impala... How could it go wrong? But her promotion and visual aesthetic is of utmost importance. ARTPOP was a mess in terms of coherence in both promotion, styling and visualisation. The Fame, The Fame Monster and Born This Way were massively backed by Troy, Vincent and Interscope/Universal and her team featured two of the world's best creative directors and stylists. They're gone now (Vince is still there but meh.) This album needs heavy promotion, a cohesive image and styling, or it won't do what we all (secretly) hope it to do.
