Is the term "#1 album" based on 1st day sales, or 1st week sales, and on what chart?   In the past, talk show hosts hold up Gaga's latest album and claim it's a #1 album, and articles written years later may make that claim .  What's the metric for that claim?

nowadays, most journalists will claim a number one album if it goes number one on any chart, including itunes or an itunes genre chart
