She also did some live numbers on her Circus tour and I believe the Femme Fatale tour. It's very telling that when Britney sings live it's always a soaring ballad. It's not like the only numbers she sings live are her easiest sogns. When she lip syncs it's a choice made to draw attention away from the song and towards the performance her people build for it.

OT: If this is true I will never watch a MTV program again on any occasion.

she's never been the best singer, obviously. She's also sang live more than that on tour. She's kinda over people's opinions about lip syncing to an extent, but she would sing live again especially in this instance.

Guys, I'm not trying to be shady but please watch the performance again and notice 2 things:

- the massive amount of hair flips / head tossing

- the inconsistent distance Britney holds the microphone from her mouth

There's no way those vocals were meant to be live (and if they were, the control room was doing her a favor by cutting her off).

You can't do head flips like that and still hold those soft notes. No one can.

And any live performer worth their salt knows that, when singing soft vocals, the microphone must be held very close to your mouth.

I just don't think there's any way this was some "scam" where they denied her the right to share her live vocal. She knew exactly what was going to be broadcast (and it was the highly produced, glossy studio vocal that is on the album).

I want success for her just as much as anyone, but I have to call a spade a spade.

Bloody hooker

I'm starting to think Britney wants to start singing live again. She won't sing fully live every time, but I'm sure she wants to try to sing again.

This mutual gaze was a “longing to touch” or a "pre-coitus" stare.

This makes a lot of sense. What's the purpose of changing mic if she were to lipsync the whole thing, and then suddenly at the middle of the choreography pointing it so dramatically?

MTV is ****. Always being extra with some artists to highlight others. First Gaga/Miley, now Britney/Beyoncé.

Someone tell me when the fck she points at her mic. It's not in the first minute and 45 seconds, and she would have known by then that the mic was off.

It's at 02:54 (skipped ahead for you in the link below), but honestly watch the 30 seconds that precede it and its obvious she knows the mic isn't on. It isn't anywhere close enough to her mouth and her body movements don't match the necessary breathing patterns to hit those notes, etc...

Let's be real here. She was NEVER supposed to sing live. Something tells me she doesn't even want to be on stage performing this song at all.

I feel this, too.

If she planned to sing live why would they have recorded her me myself and i cover in the studio....?

Good question!

Her performance just seemed off.

Her carpool karaoke was awkward.

I felt like James had to do most of the singing during it, and sometimes when it looked like Britney was singing it was so quiet that I couldn't tell if it was good or not.

You're 100% right. That's the first thing I thought was "she isn't even trying to pretend she's singing if she's doing all those hairflips. That would mess up the vocals.

Two mics: the perfect illusion.

Thank you. But that looks like part of the choreography. If she was signaling someone backstage, there'd have been at least a slight change in expression, and she would have done it much earlier in the performance.

Honestly could you imagine Britney hitting us with live vocals at the VMA's? That would have been talked about for weeks!

I honestly think MTV turned off her mic without giving her notice, she looked suprised when they started Me Myself and I and then pointed at the mic as in "they turned it off" also she kind of looked pissed after she pointed to the mic.

Exactly. Thats the biggest point, i feel like when they gave her the handheld, it was for that reason. Obviously team britney had a plan b with the backing track, thats why they recorded one. MTV really screwed over Britney, and i hope they do bring this story to light through TMZ or something. Putting her after Beyoncé knowing its huge, and that people would flip the channel after they saw Bey perform. She could've been the second performer and it would've been fine.
