Versace 7,969
Have you guys noticed how dominating Urban/Hip-hop music has become this year Rihanna's Work and Drake's One Dance have literally dominated the charts for 16 weeks and One Dance is still going strong, you have Panda which became a hit too effortless songs like Rihanna's Needed Me and Drake's Controlla are doing better than pop gems such as Ariana's Into You and Rihanna's own Kiss It Better It's safe to say Urban/Hip-hop music is dangerously overshadowing the Pop scene, while yes both can co-exist and we can all just love music but it was always the other way around since Gaga and The Black Eyed Peas, Pop was always in a leading position, no matter how successful a hip-hop song was. The catch here, is we still have pop songs that hit hard as ever, such Justin's Cant Stop The Feeling, Fifth Harmony's Work From Home, Sia's Cheap Thrills, Meghan's Me Too but if you think about the pop songs, they are are taking so long to deliver, it's only as of now that pop songs such as Cheap Thrills, Me Too, Just Like Fire, Send My Love, Kill Em With Kindness are climbing the charts, it's like a tight race almost. This is so reminiscent of the way Gaga dominated the scene with The Fame, she had to catch up to the urban hits around her, my point is we're back to a time where pop songs are taking time to become hits, instead of immediately, you have exceptions such as JT's song and Calvin's TIWYCF. Same way we had some pop hits doing well back when urban was the deal such as Britney's Womanizer and Madonna's Hung Up. In conclusion, people seem to be more critical as to what pop songs they send up the charts, where as any urban song even if bad but sung by a well-known artist, will have no trouble dominating. Maybe it's cause of the nature of how urban songs get streamed more, perhaps but it's interesting to see if LG5 can turn the tables again, after all pop music is supposed to be a popular format that everyone can enjoy, it is tailored with the need of appealing to a way wider audience than what urban music caters too. The Pop scene has to present something interesting very soon for the sake of the genre. It's interesting to note that the pop songs that are doing well, all have some sort of catchy hook to them, something Gaga made her signature sound with TF/TFM. Just a food for thought thread : )

Lord Temptation 11,209
Out of LG1-4 I believe LG5 will sound most like LG3 (Born This Way). And that's exactly what I want.

lxdygxga 3,353
It's not that I underestimate her at all, but I feel some people are too sure that she could "change the face of music" again. Considering the completely different context of where she's at now to where she was then (she was new, she was exciting, she was a breath of fresh air), the set of factors that led to the dance music breakthrough were really once in a lifetime - trends come back around sure, but it's difficult to establish any one artist's potential to change music, especially in this era of streaming, where radio is less and less important. I don't think we should expect anything of her anymore, expect the fact that she makes good music. After all with Gaga, it's always best to expect the unexpected, and I'd much rather she diversified as an artist and broke new boundaries than returning to old ones by trying to bring a genre of music back to popularity - a goal that in itself is highly improbable for anyone. But that's not to suggest I'm saying she couldn't do it - I believe if anyone could, she could, but I don't think it could happen again considering the factors - the stars just aligned when the time was right. Yep! I've been thinking this, too. Hope it materializes because our Queen deserves all of the success and acclaim. I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.
