Pope Francis has recently been so amazing that I will almost regret Turkey abolishing Islamic title of Caliph which is equal to Pope for biggest denomination of Islam, Sunni. Considering last Caliph was a talented painter, such influence would do amazingly positive influence on rapidly radicalizing and marginalizing muslims.

There's a difference between noting a necessary change and applauding it as if it was significant, or worse, "praiseworthy" though. Everyone claiming this pope is fighting the good fight is just being foolish. You wouldn't praise a chef for using a bit less rat poison in his food, would you You'd say: baby steps but it's still a shithole and it should still close down, probably even more so because it's still believing rat poison is a necessary ingredient despite blatantly obvious and growing evidence of the contrary.

I didnt claim he's "fighting the good fight", i said baby steps which implies they're just starting to changing their minds maybe. Yes, the Church is corrupt, has a lot of issues and a lot of blood in their hands but they wont close down. They'll probably become more irrelevant as time passes but as they wane and as people's mentality about homosexuality changes worldwide, they'll open too. I remember growing up around "good people" who hated what I was.  They would probably be applauded for hating me a little less.  I remember my gay friends (all secret) in high school praising their parents for being a little less awful.   I remember my counselor advising us to be patient with our parents... they would be getting sudden news from us and needed time to adjust to our gayness (and what have you) and we wouldn't be able to expect immediate acceptance.  And I remember thinking... what utter bullshit.  Before I came out to my parents, at age 13, I remember thinking, if these people didn't know what sexuality their child was and weren't prepared for that, it was their fault as parents.  I held my parents to that.  They didn't throw me out.  I'm not relatively grateful.  I'm just glad they weren't complete idiots.

Tired of incremental allowances for acceptance and enlightenment.  I wasn't given time to adjust to myself in a cruel world.  More should be expected of parents and the upmost expected of leaders.  He'll have my respect if he respects the reality of humanity.  Based on the qualifications of his statements, he does not.
