You must be confused. I didn't say they couldn't sing, I said they couldn't sing. They as in normal everyday people.

Why are you getting so defensive? Are you butthurt? Did I insult your fav unknowingly? Are you part of the indie girls fan club?

", but rather how young people use to hide the fact that they can't sing, because for some reason youths now associate that style of singing as cool, modern, hip, and therefore 'talent'."

You literally just said they can't sing though. Like you said the way they sing means they don't have talent lol. I'm just upset that you're grouping all these singers together and discrediting every single one because you don't like their singing style. Music is meant to be enjoyed and you're nitpicking it to hell.

I'm not trying to discredit all those singers! But rather to discredit singers with NO talent. To put it down specifically, young teen girls posting covers on youtube thinking they're talented when they are actually not. I can't believe I have to dumb it down like that for you.

Sorry but I always thought Ellie's voice was a bad copy of Duffy. Like a smudged copy that someone spilled coffee on.

Whatever happened to Duffy?

They are two different types of vocalists. I wouldn't put Duffy in this category either. Neither are apart of this new fad.

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it

It's not about how young singers nowadays sing... But these are the type of singers that labels and radio pick, it's a very popular type of voice. Just that.

There are lots of different voices nowadays, even among young singers I believe. Too bad the popular ones have the same thing I guess.

That's just the way they sing to make us feel emotions without having to scream out the lyrics. You realize that back in the days people were so forced into this "real POWER" voice than it destroyed the singing ability of many ? You might love powerhouse voices, but there are many more singers with the "indie girl" voice than "powerhouse" singers, and i'd rather go back to normal standard of singing than the destructive ones from the 90s.

Enunciation and over-dramatization of lyrics used to be way feelings were being transmitted from the singer to their audience, and we then decided to focus on the singing ability rather than anything else, I'm not sure it's a good thing, it just seems like a show-off.

Didn't Amy Winehouse sing like that though?

Btw that technique sometimes sounds very good... Idk where's the problem. And not everyone can be Gaga when it comes to powerful vocals.

Exactly. If anything, being able to control your voice and how you sing shows more talent.

I knew exactly what you were talking about before opening the thread.

Not only is it pretentious but it is awful, awful music. I switch the station as soon as I hear any of these.
