uo111 5,282
His actions did not lead to the death. It was his inaction that lead to the death. 10 years of your life because you didn't save someone who knowingly gave you HIV hardly seems too light to me. He isn't exactly a violent criminal. Although he does seem mentally disturbed now, and his arson endangered the lives of many other people.

I think its important that more young gay guys are aware of the dangers involved in Chemsex (see above article, for instance) so I'm glad it was made, its a huge issue. For those of you who are unaware, I'm almost positive that if you have been on grindr you would of seen things like "P&P or H&H" (Party and play, high and horny) these are to let people know that they're having chemsex sessions. The dangers are that if you decide to engage in this sort of sex, under the influence of these particular drugs, you do not have ANY inhibitions you fail to judge a situation as you normally would and many have found them selves in real danger. There are men who go to these session knowing the have HIV, don't have protected sex and infect others, there are a small minority who WANT to be infected so they don't need to be concerned anymore. Its insanity, truly sad and very worrying. Your post is extremely accurate. I would post the "applaud" emoji but I feel that would be inappropriate. Also I think there should be stricter control on gay saunas... I was acquaintances with a dealer and I followed him to the gay sauna a few times. Sooo many people buy & use there. One time I heard this animal screaming from a room, I think it was someone OD'ing on G. There's such limited security, you can hide anything in your underwear. Scary stuff. I honestly don't understand why the police don't do more against these things. They make a much bigger deal about weed. I mean, really??? Weed is also bad, it's sort of a gateway drug along with alcohol, but chems are far worse. And it's sooo easy to track dealers down.

Speaking for myself, I never gave in to stuff like grindr and mindless sex because even though I wanted to have sex, the risks far outweighed the benefits. So yeah, there are many straight and gay men who do not prescribe to that risk-and-reward seeking behaviour. Firstly, I said can potentially manifest. It doesn't mean it will manifest the same in everyone. Humans are a destructive species so please don't deny that. Secondly I'm not talking about mindless sex. I'm talking about living on the edge. Life is not a game of pros and cons. It's not decision analysis. We don't just think with our minds. We think with our bodies. We all secrete testosterone and adrenaline. We are all driven by love and fear.

Almost everyone has either tried it or has been/is addicted to it. I personally partook in chemsex for a few months as well (I was also addicted to mephedrone), so I can easily visualize how this situation played out. It's sad, but they brought it on themselves... Edit: Of course in noooo way do I condone what happened. Quite the opposite. But having been through the same thing as these two guys, I can understand how and why it happened. What needs to be done is a much, MUCH stricter control over drugs in the UK. You can literally just go to a police station and say "Hey, I was doing drugs and someone stole my stuff while we were all high" and they will do absolutely nothing. You can walk into a few specific streets and people will offer you "cigarettes for free", then if you follow them you can buy kamagra, G, etc. There's no investigations into dealers, there's nothing at all. It would be super easy to catch these guys if they tried. Dean Street should also offer stricter council with these issues. Give better advice. Tell people what will happen if they continue down their road (but without being judgy or hostile, or no one will even come for check ups anymore). Instead, we're all just handing out PrEP and hoping for the best...sigh. By this I hope you mean decriminalise and regulate because that's the only way it will help. The reason the police do not go for dealers is largely due to time and money. They invest that time trying to catch the leader. Leader falls and so do the dealers. If we were to decriminalise and regulate drugs we would see a massive change in the UKs drug abuse and also gain financially. Brian Ryan 1,468
I consider it self defense. I do not think he should have got time. Then again, I do not believe in jail nor prisons. I only believe in rehabilitation and other indeterminate sentencing measures. A person generally just sitting in a cage will not do it anything. That's not how self defense works. This is like being attacked by someone and killing that person a week after. It's not something you do to protect yourself from dying or getting hurt, you're basically planning someone's death which is a crime.

He knowingly knew he had HIV+ and engaged in sex for months... without telling his partner. I do not think the person should serve any time. The individual could have gave him HIV+ that could have killed him. He basically tried to kill his partner. Therefore, he killed him. I do not feel any sympathy. I'm sorry it had to happen. I do not think the guy should have to serve anytime. Point blank. He tried to kill him, so he killed him. Self defense is when you kill someone because they are trying to kill you, not when you kill someone after they have tried to kill you and you are not in danger of dying abruptly anymore. HIV can lead to AIDS which is a deadly disease but HIV alone doesn't kill you so transmitting HIV to someone is not the same as killing someone, it's horrible and definitely a way of possibly killing someone but it's not murder. Both did something wrong.

"He definitely killed a murderer" Even if that's truth (which is not because transmission of HIV is grievous bodily harm and not murder) that's still murder, not self defense. You're entitled to your opinion but the justice system worked the way it is supposed to work.
