Glory 2,247
Quality wise Avril >> Britney. But Britney is an icon, a force we can't deny. Scream & Shout was a big hit thanks to her don't forget it. Plus she's still touring well, i don't see her disappearing soon. Whereas last real hit of Avril was WTH

Alien Tulip 12,428
Britney Spears. Outside of online forums, she's still talked about a lot these days. After the night of the BBMAs, the radio stations like Z100 were praising her and a lot of people I know loved the performances. TMZ and other media outlets often talk about her a couple of times a month. Britney is definitely not as popular as she was during her peak but she's still "relevant". AlexanderLevi2 5,849
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA They are not even comparable. In 20 years, Avril will never be mentioned while Britney will be considered the Queen (or Gaga ) Currently listening to Joanne
Noir 17,382
Britney, even If she never makes music again she's still ten times more relevant than Avril

Nobody had exepected the girl who sings bubble gum pop as Sometimes is now a woman who sings various genres of music from hip hop to dance. I agree that Britney is really interesting to follow. But so is Avril. From her rockish boyish style she went to totally crazy bubblegum but awesome rock and then she went to bitchy pop and then Avril Lavigne happened which is quite basic but still has some bops. But yeah overall her career is very interesting

Kulture Kiari 3,433
Is this like an undercover poll to see if you should change your username from Britney Spears to Avril Lavigne? Hands down, Britney! Even when people know she lipsynchs, they still get excited when she announces new eras, especially gay people. She still has huge tours/residency regardless if her album flops or not, and she is still the main act even though EVERYONE KNOWS SHE LIPSYNCHS. Her new single titles are known quickly by the gp and still remembered: 3, Womanizer, Pretty Girls, Work Bitch, If You Seek Amy, Gimmie More, Piece Of Me, etc. Meanwhile Avril, she gets viral hits, but then they are quickly forgotten, like Hello Kitty. And honestly, I havent heard Avril tour anymore. So who is more relevant? A bitch who lipsynchs and still gets sold out shows (everyone wants to see Britney, dont deny it. Even I if I had the money), or Avril?

Harry 26,836
If they both did a worldwide arena tour with the same amount of dates/tickets, do you really think Avril would be close to selling the same amount as Britney? Britney's last album isn't really a great indication of her popularity... That campaign was a mess for many reasons. I don't feel like Avril would even be invited to the Billboard Awards today, let alone be invited to perform.

And yes she does have a problem.Hopefully she will do better with her next album because her decline after The Best Damn Thing was ugly. From selling 1,7m in the US she fell to 400k with Goodbye Lullaby because she had a 4 years break.. She doesn't deserve that

Vic Hill 1
Hi all. i have a question as to Avril is more popular in the general public (at least where I live). where you live and what general public is that really? Now it hard to say who is more and such do to a number of factors. Brittney has been around longer by a few years, so more albums and such. As for number one or top billboard songs there is factors as what songs it was against when they came out, I know of many songs through the years that may have been number one if it wasn't for another song that beat it out coming out at the same time. I don't agree that Girlfriend was all that great and don't know how it became number one buy hey that's life. I also trust record sales or video views or votes even cause they can be played with, we all heard of the youtube issues and counts being played with. Even with the it cant be done promise yes it can. its easy and people go the extra mile with that. Avril has a following that did and does go that mile. Which goes back to record sales and me wondering how many fans of both have the same record to drive up sales. I know people say that don't happen to that i say yea right like fans are not calling up radio stations non stop requesting the same song even while it still playing. Its just how fans are. One other factor was the switch from record to cd. counts driven up again for the new format so more sales. Avril put out a record of the same songs in acoustic. How many have the single and the album. So you get my point as to how hard it is to keep it straight. Other things is different boards have different numbers, point on Avril has different contact numbers 1.2 million on one and 2 million on another which is a big difference so who knows what is real and what is ballooned. this is just a point that you hope your person does well enough that they can keep producing music that you want to hear and enjoy.
