AP Responds To Critics: We Counted Those Delegates

Last night Sanders campaign was quick to blast the Associated Press for “prematurely” declaring Hillary Clinton the presumptive Democratic nominee. This morning Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver appeared on CNN to again slam the AP for “suppressing voter turnout.”  Weaver added, “Let those people vote and decide before the media tells them that the race is over.”

AP concluded that Hillary Clinton had enough delegates to clinch the nomination after a painstaking but very straightforward exercise.

We counted. (  :rip: )

By Monday evening, 571 superdelegates had told us unequivocally that they intend to vote for Clinton at the convention. Adding that number to the delegates awarded to Clinton in primary and caucus voting to date gave her the number needed to be the presumptive nominee.

That is news, and reporting the news is what we do.

Nothing in that discourages or prevents voters in six states from exercising their right to go to the polls today and cast their ballots.

The snark. The shade :deadbanana:

I still think AP should have waited til today, because ironically this will have the effect of lowering Clinton's supporter turnout, not just Sanders'.

In any case, there goes any doubt on whether the supers will be switching :emma:

P.S. Weaver is an idiot. Sanders should have fired him months ago.

Ok but even the DNC has been aging don't count them. They could have given a sacrificial killing of their first born to Clinton and still the DNC says don't count them yet.

Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

It'll be a net benefit to have it released last night for her. It'll mean if she does well in Cali, she's good to go. If she does bad in Cali, she's got a good excuse built in: "AP caused many of my busy supporters to stay home".

She's put in a win/win, even if she loses CA.

The media did the exact same thing in 2008 when Obama clinched the nomination with supers and in 2004 when Kerry did it even though Dennis Kuchinich was still actively campaigning against him. You have to be delusional and/or ignorant to think this is some kind of conspiracy by the media.
