PunkTheFunk 124,469
This is just my attempt to get that hit controversial thread but hear me out I notice a few of you point out that Gaga constantly contradicts herself during interviews. Case in point: she tells Jamie Lee Curtis in the "Actors on Actors" clip that she never sought fame. And yet you flashback a couple of years and she's saying things like "everybody wants to be famous but nobody wants to play the game. [...] I will kill to get what I need." Heck, she named her debut album The Fame. She also told us that she got MDNA's blessing for Born This Way: ("I got an e-mail from her people and her, sending me their love and complete support on behalf of the single and if the queen says it shall be, then it shall be,” Gaga said) I also remember a thread on this website last year complaining that she lied about the age she started playing piano So I wonder: Does Gaga have a tendency to edit her past? i.e. she convinces herself that something did or did not happen when the opposite is true, and so when she tells us about it she doesn't believe she's lying. The "Marry The Night" video opening monologue gives us plenty of evidence: “When I look back on my life, it’s not that I don’t want to see things exactly as they happen, it’s just that I prefer to remember them in an artistic way. And truthfully, the lie of it all is much more honest, because I invented it. Clinical psychology arguably tells us that trauma is the ultimate killer. Memories are not recycled like atoms and particles in quantum physics. They can be lost forever. It sort of like my past is an unfinished painting and, as the artist of that painting, I must fill in all the ugly holes and make it beautiful again. It's not that I’ve been dishonest, it’s just that I loathe reality.” Enlighten me hunties
LePetitGAGABLover 21,234
Gaga is a walking enigma. I don't even think she knows who she is as a person, let alone her fans, family, and friends. Even on that Actors on Actors clip, she talks with a different accent. She probably has a personality disorder (I'm not trying to be funny. I'm dead serious). SHE DIDN'T SAY THAT! god, ignoring context much... the MTN monologue is an artistic perspective, meaning that her viewpoint is much more honest because that was the prism through which her "real life" experiences were filtered. she felt in a certain way. that's her truth. god, i'm guessing not many members are humanities students. the postmodernist/metamodernist episteme is something you should all look up. if you hurt taylor swift, i'll hurt you back

Sid 6,755
Yes. I think the 'past' she portrays to the public is different than her actual life, edited and glamorized while still being true to an extent (as you pointed out is explained in the Marry The Night video. As for her saying she never sought fame...well that is a flat out ****ing lie ...ıllıllı c h e r r y c h e r r y b o o m b o o m ıllıllı...
GloZell Green 11,723
The truth is that people change. Views change when people go through experiences. And the truth is that everyone contradicts themselves. Now I'm not directing this at you but it's a general statement. Everyone mentions 2008ga saying "I'll do anything for the fame" but realize that that was before she truly experienced fame. At the time she was a rising superstar and the GP was on her side along with everyone else and she was rising, everything was great! She experienced a lot after she was safe with it though. Some were not related to how she was treated. Imagine how conflicted she was after her hip injury and the cancellation of the BTWB. Even worse, people set such high standards for her, and she released a work which was not as commercially successful as her previous album. She was the focus of hate, saw her fans leave her because of whatever reasons, the media laughing because AP didn't sell more than her other albums, being fat shamed because she didn't have the same slim figure as before. And through all of that, the Troy incident. I remember someone posting an interview the other day when she got emotional talking about the situation. Can you imagine a human being having to go through all of this? The point is that I think she's experienced the ugly side of fame. Wouldn't you loathe what was happening, reality, if that occurred? I just needed to get that out because of people saying that she contradicted herself in that aspect. We don't know about the email. People lie everyday, without concrete evidence we cannot assume that it was Gaga or the rep lying about the email. And the piano It was a LONG time ago and do you expect her to remember such a date where she played some keys? A nonevent can pass your mind, a white lie about how old she was when she played the piano does not hurt anyone. Without writing everything down it's pretty hard to remember. Luxe Ford 3,481
Yes, we all do! Our memory really is selective. We are more likely to remember positive things and blur out the negative. Maybe it's some sort of mental self defence? Thankully people also change their opinion a lot as they age and mature. I also think that a lot of the 'opinions' that are voiced by Gaga is part of her 'art performance', especially in the beginning of her career. I don't think she just blurted those things out. They were probably carefully planned. What happens in Luxe Ford stays in Luxe Ford
