Well yes that's "better", the skeuomorphic ( ) icon looked reaaaaally dated. But this new icon ugh, I don't know, if you didn't know it's Instagram you would not guess it's a photo app, it just look like a circle in a square. The colors are tacky as hell (even more than the tackiness of iOS 7 and +).
