politicqxs 358
For example france has daft punk etc.., but I couldn't think of any german popular music artist whose popularity spreads far beyond the border. Why is that? giving up sodomy and moving to 🇦🇪 converting to ☪ and marrying four girls

The Surrealist 27,470
Nena and Tokio Hotel are the only ones who made it that far. Germany lacks diversity and has no music taste.

Iwontell 7,312
Language is a barrier, first of all...and it's not only that ppl don't understand it, it's that it might sound funny to them...(for example, the first time I heard ppl rapping in french I rolled on the ground laughing, cuz just the juxtaposition of rapping and the cutest sounding language in world...I mean, it was priceless) If you think of non-spoken music though - specially Classic music (Bach, Beethoven, Liszt, Pachelbel, Wagner, etc. ) -, Germany is huge... Other than that, there are some countries that have more of a tradition of exporting culture, like the US, of course, the UK, France, Japan...what they eat, how they dress, how they think, for some reason (probably bc they've been big economies for a long while, so ppl want to emulate their lifestyle) is very influential and more easily absorbed by other cultures... ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

kvnrp 48,353
German-produced songs are way more popular than German-language songs. Everyone should know Zedd around here

RAMROD 109,709
It is popular enough, especially the electronic/industrial acts. Rammstein, KMFDM, Kraftwerk, Atari Teenage Riot, Alphaville, Oomph!, Das Ich are some of the names that need no introduction. Guest
Robin Schulz just had a few hits worldwide, Zedd is at the top of his game as well, and Cascada used to be pretty successful in Europe.

eifulien 2,969
When someone asks about a German hit - this comes to mind as the last thing that slayed everybody (at least in Europe, I guess): I love that song, and makes German listenable!
