LebaneseDude 6,146
@Himeros26 A leader isn't supposed to be above apologizing. Those that don't are called political opportunists or even tyrants. Isn't that what you supposedly stand against? Edited just now by LebaneseDude.

"What I was saying is that the way things are going now, we will continue to lose jobs. That's what I meant to say." She wants to help coal country...aka the people that live there. She isn't referring to the industry. Even then she is not demonizing the industry itself. She's raising awareness to its damaging effects and wants to transfer to clean energy to mitigate them. Perhaps we have different meanings of demonize. I infer it to mean to make something look evil and wicked. She doesn't believe that. She just thinks it has no place anymore. More importantly and that which has actual context with what she's saying, is that she is there to support the coal miners not toss them to the side. How do you not see the truth to her comment? I told you. She had said that she wants to put it out of business, when referring to the profession and the industry. The worker thought she was demonizing the coal miners and was going to ignore them. She corrected him by saying that she has plans to help the people there recover from that change. Coal country is referring to the industry that makes up that area, so she is referring to the industry by using that term (otherwise, why not just say the state names?). She is describing the profession and it's affects in the area by using the term coal country. (Another caddy comment: "perhaps we have different meaning of demonize." I know you understand what you're doing when you're writing this, so stop acting like you don't.) And i understand what she's saying, my point is that she said the opposite was true at the debate, then when someone who disagrees with her sits in front of her she changed her view to pro-coal country instead of wishing to break it down rampantly as so she said in the debate. No coal country is referring to the location not its contents... coal country isn't a state either. It's a subset of the states of West VA, Penn, etc... I've already told you that she wants to help the area which is mired in coal mining. "Perhaps we have different meaning of demonize" is insulting now? Are you trying to get offended? I'm only saying that we may have conflicting meanings on what demonize is. Why do you expect her to maintain that level of generalization in practice? You're seeing how the interaction with real people functions. These are the consequences of speaking too generally. You're going to be confronted by people you you slight, and you have to remind them that you're not going to ignore them. Bernie wants to break the big banks for. Would you be OK with if he tells off its employees who come to him that "they're ruining his livelihood" to "deal with it" because he's going to be merciless as he says he is? That's rude to the human in front of you, ignorant of context, and downright heartless. It's not "flipflopping" to remind people of the context of your plans. Enough of this. That's rude to the human in front of you, ignorant of context, and downright heartless. As i said, state NAMES, not name. And I wouldn't think that her platform would be for her to not want to help coal country. Demonizing only has one definition, and i never used the word so i don't understand where you perceived my definition from? Since it only has one definition, what you said came off as trying to insult my intellect as to me not understanding what you were saying. And i would expect Bernie to say the truth, which he would. It is only rude if you say it in the hyperbole way you did. I did not expect her to say "deal with it." Also on her platform of making jobs in the clean energy sector, you cannot train and educate an entire field of coal miners into the tech industry to help keep the coal miners in work, it just doesn't work. Then you have the people in tech out of work, and if it's labor jobs she means, they would also be an unbalanced injustice in the way those jobs are handled. The influx of trying to move them to other industries would be an incredibly difficult process to manage. Will there then be lawsuits also if they don't get new positions? There is a way to be helpful and honest with these people. but she's choosing to blanket them in her false hope.

It's a location that intersects several states. She referred to the area by its colloquial name. Read the title of the article. The people that live there call the area "Coal Country". What's the issue? Demonizing has several connotations. It can range from threatening to outright wicked. Your statements regarding demonization are enough for me to get context. Context. No what you literally wanted her to say was: "Yes I'm going to shut down the entire area". She didn't even refute that fact, by the way. She simply said that her statement was lacking context. She wasn't demonizing the workers. Unlike Bernard, she wanted to remind them that she was there for them in more than just words. Friendly reminder that she WALKED into the heart of the state that has been turning red slowly since Al Gore. She went into the state, right to coal country, to speak with the people there. She wasn't confronted at a random location. She wants to help these people, and this man outright admitted to not knowing her plans and thanking her for the apology. Yet you are the one who are taking issue with her being polite and respectful to a person she unintentionally marginalized. I think you're overestimating how much skills you need for grunt work for maintenance of solar power plants... These people already operate heavy machinery. Anyway, it's not like all the jobs are going to be transferred. She outright admitted that there will be a loss in jobs. The point is to remind them that this is necessary, but she'll be there to help them when the time comes. Your final statement is confusing me. Everything Bernie has said so far has been blanketing people in false hope, unless of course you believe that all his plans are remotely feasible within three decades or so. You read way too much into what i'm saying I haven't said anything that wasn't empathetic. You can tell people a harsh truth and still be empathetic. There is no contradiction.
