I don't agree with a LOT of what's said in the video, tbh...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

I recommend that you watch the six minute video, Gaga and Born This Way pops up at one point.

This is one interesting insight from the video:

"Pop has become powerful, in part, because it's cleverly understood the division of labour. Those who can sing and hold the crowd may not be the same as those who know how to write music or arrange the instruments. Pop is unashamed about uniting talent wherever it finds it, so that the final result combines the most beautiful face with the finest voice, the best score and the most beguiling instrumental arrangement. Pop has overcome the romantic hang-up about the unique creator. It knows that the most intimate, heartfelt results may be the outcome of large-scale, institutional collaboration. "

super ultra

yaaass The Beatles, my boys  their crazy fans are amazing :laughga: I love reading/watching (videos) about the pop culture/music industry/etc. Sometimes I go to pop exhibitions or masterclasses, I highly recommend these two too.

(I wish I could have lived in the 60s :saladga:)

Intimate and heartfelt… god, what is this crap… Rih's Work is hearfelt? Or maybe California Gurls is intimate? Seems like they know nothing about modern pop music

Gaga's music is intimate and heartfelt, and she writes it herself, Adele does too. The greatest pop songs were written by one or two persons

The video does say that pop is currently "lacking in ambition"

"Pop currently touches on the big themes, but doesn't as yet properly take up many of the opportunities that lay it's way, it's lacking in ultimate ambitions. In the future we need pop musicians to take up the challenge of investigating the deepest truths, of getting behind transformative concepts and of making these into the things we will sing about in front of the mirror with our hair brushes."

I wouldn't judge by the one quote I provided

The video never claims that all pop music is intimate or heartfelt, so picking out examples of modern pop songs that don't fit that box doesn't make any sense.
