No. I listen only to English music, but I do know Arabic songs since my parents listen to it. Arabic songs are also divided further.

Here in Egypt nobody listens to Iranian or Turkish music. Different languages and all.

Not really. Maybe if there's a really big breakout hit it will get some attention, but other than that nah. But between arabic-speaking countries, yes they do.

Also why does everyone insist on using the word 'Muslim' when they refer to anything arabic or middle eastern.

No. They're all different languages. Arabic music is so complex that it's actually even more subdivided. Arab listeners can usually differentiate between Lebanese, Egyptian, etc. styles of music as well. I mean, occasionally you might hear music from those three groups that share similar sounds, but it's not that common to see it shared so much.

Also, I don't like the fact that you mention "Muslim countries". Most mainstream Arabic music doesn't even mention religion. Most songs are about love over anything else.

Aww I beg to disagree with people here. Eastern music is so different from Western music on the melodic level that there are people who listen to all three, if just for some musical similarities. Obviously, this happens mostly with pop music and in dance/party settings. I'm Iranian and I can't think of one of us who doesn't at least know Tarkan or Nancy Ajram, for example.

Most lebanese melodies are actually turkish.  I guess we took it from the ottoman mendate. But we don't listen to anything that isn't in arabic.
